System Shock 2
Whoa....
I've just finished System Shock 2 and can easily call it one of the greatest games of all time,
so Whoa....
Anyway let me lay out the general gist of SS2, basically you play as a unnamed soldier on a (too) simple mission to escort another ship named the Von Braun...
and then you wake up out of a cyro-sleep and everyone is either dead or a mutant.
i won't go any further about the plot because its really good and you Really should play this game.
One of the few flaws in the game is its graphics and engine which work well but by today's standards they aren't all that great, especially since the only other "Shock" game i played was "Bioshock" which had amazing graphics.
However what SS2 lacks in graphics it makes up for in Style....i mean atmosphere.
The game does a superb job of trapping you in a world where are all alone against mutants, crazy robots and mysterious yet farmiliar voice...
The game has little touches that add to the depth of the world for example the hybrid mutants, will yell out apologies while they try to flail their arms at you trying to kill you.
The game also features Voice recordings similar to Bioshock or F.E.A.R. these add more depth to the game world and in contrast to Bioshock or F.E.A.R. they tell of events that are happening parallel to your adventures in the main game.
Now at this point i've praised the game a ton, ut havnt been very specific about how it plays,
So as the unnamed soldier you can customize yourself using cubernetic modules to advance your skills in a variety of different ways from hacking and Research skills to learning heavy weapons and telekenesis, no skill is useless in the game and because of this every cybernetic module spent is a good investment in your character.
You can pick up a variety of weapons throughout the game these require ammo, must be maintained and can be modified and upgraded.
The weapons available to you range from assault rifles and grenade launchers to laser swords and fusion cannons.
The music in the game is tense almost all the time and this assists the immersion factor.
So basically, SS2 is a FPSRPG that i highly recommend and really with a game that is now 10 years old you don't have an excuse not to.
