Space Invaders Infinity Gene Review
Space Invaders Infinity Gene is the Space Invaders franchise's introduction to the i-phone. You'll start off the game with the old-school look, but you'll quickly find that this game is about beats and invaders on several different levels. The best part of the game comes in the form of unlockables, so if you want to really see what this game has to offer you'll have to keep playing it.
Graphically this game is very simplistic. Its going to have very basic coloring, and the levels are going to be 2D. In my opinion this is both a good and bad thing. Its a good thing because it keeps it simple and the action is popping so you don't have to worry about different angles. It's a bad thing because sometimes you are getting destroyed by enemies that can exist while going through walls, which of course you can't survive through.
Musically this game has some beats that you can definitely groove to. If I had to name a genre I'd say the the flavor is techno. Now with that said there is also another feature in the game that allows you to use music found on your i-pod/i-phone to play a level with, which means that you can listen to about anything on there.
The controls for me are both a blessing and a curse. I love the fact that autofiring is on by default so that all you have to worry about is movement. The problem I have is that sometimes when you're touching the screen your finger is on top of the ship so its hard to see how close the enemy fire is coming, but also if you try to reposition your finger quickly you might find that the ship is slightly off from where it was before. This can be a blessing if you can do it to where the ship is a bit further in front of your finger so you can where your ship is. There's also the fact that after dragging your finger around the screen for a bit you might find that your finger is going to start to lose feeling.
The name of the game is shooting down enemy invaders and grooving to music. As you rack up the points you'll evolve, allowing you access to more of the game options, different firing setups, and more. You don't have to play the main game to get those points either, you can easily get them by playing with your own music. There is the option to turn off auto firing, but I've never had the desire to do so. I can see how that would help in some instances as you have to collect power ups to make your shots fire more rapidly, so early on with some of the configurations you might be left really vulnerable. Overall this is a game that has really surprised me because of the replayability. I want to come back and play more because I never know what I'll open up next. This is also one of the few games that playing with the sound on is a must for me.
If you own the Apple i-pod touch or i-phone and this game sounds right up your alley you need to get it, if you haven't already. Yes there are a couple small quirks to the game, but the game's level of polish really makes up for some of the shortcomings, which I can't completely blame on the game. This game gets a 9.1 out of 10.
