    Single-Screen Level

    Concept »

A level in which everything is displayed on-screen at once, with no scrolling, flip screen, or 3D movement. Many '80s games consist entirely of single-screen levels.

    Short summary describing this concept.

    Overview

This concept best applies to games where a character, vehicle, or other object is directly controlled by the player. In card games, match-3 games and the like, there is no movement of the type that might initiate scrolling, so a single screen is a matter of course.

This concept shouldn't be confused with flip screen, in which a larger game world is divided into single screens displayed one at a time (as in The Legend of Zelda, for example).
