Heya @janman - RE: Auto playing - I played one of Cygames' previous game, Dragalia Lost, and as long as you had a decent team and used an elemental team that was good against the area you were entering and high enough level, you basically always won. The challenge came down to the higher level difficulty content where you probably wanted manual control. Obviously, Dragalia is a different game genre than World Flipper, but I wouldn't be surprised if the path of content wasn't that dissimiliar.

Not since the dark times of 2016 Clash Royale has the Giant Bomb staff been so at-risk with a bottomless money-hole mobile game.

Gacha garbage. Not much more to say, really.

Edit: Holy crap, you can't even control the flippers individually.

I want more pinball-adjacent games like Yoku's Island Express, but I hate gatcha mechanics so, so much.

I was excited for this game, but fuck the pinball gameplay in this is terrible. I deleted it after playing the first few rounds.

This is basically a standard gacha game with a light flavoring of pinball mechanics. As someone who has dabbled in too many gachas over the years, I recognize just about all the standard mechanics you'd find in just about every gacha game these days.

Its disappointing that they basically completely neutered the actual pinball gameplay, but it's not surprising given that they want players to focus on pulls and levels over everything else. You're not supposed to be able to skill your way past challenges, you just have to have enough power level to surpass them.

I'll also add that a lot of this game seems rough in terms of the translation. My 5-star character has skills that are untranslated, mission text boxes clip in weird ways, random parts of character descriptions are not translated, etc. The main story seems fine enough, but there is a lot that appears unfinished in terms of bringing it out in English.

Regarding things like Multiball, not only do some of the character abilities produce multiball type effects like the bombs one of @janman characters was doing, but in the last set of boards in chapter 2 introduces “assist” characters where you have your team and then another character from the plot joins in as another ball to hit/dash. These assist characters are plot/level specific.

Of course, this also brings @jeff’s complaint about independent flippers because now you will have times when you want to hit the assist character with the left flipper but still wait for your main team that just started rolling across the right flipper.

And man I had some bad luck with pulls. With 5 or so 10x pulls (all free), I still only got one 5* character. Bad RNG luck vs a reported 5% overall chance on a 5* character (that’s the same for both the 4-5 and 3-5 pulls)
