Ready Player One isn't even a good book.

That's being too kind...

It's a fucking trashfire.

Yeah but his next book.... is just as awful.

New favorite thing is Alex's bold declaratives followed by the rest of the cast "But it's good though."

I've long referred to what Kirby does as "making out" with his friends to share health, but now Dan's interpretation of him transferring pre-masticated food to them like a momma bird is forever burned in my brain.

I have to admit, Dan's dig on Geralt and The Witcher in Soul Calibur got a chuckle out of me

I do the bath and then a shower to actually get clean thing pretty regularly. If I’m in a hurry it’s just a shower, but if I’m looking to relax and unwind, I’ll take a hot bath and relax, then shower to scrub down afterword.

It sure isn't. Never tried square-space or one of the apparently two competing podcast mattress companies, and I'm already too good at cooking to care about blue apron, but I can say for sure that the audiobook of ready player one had me switching to something else in less than ten minutes.

"Age is not an accomplishment, and youth is not a sin." -- Robert A. Heinlein, "Methuselah's Children"

Old people who think they have all the answers are, I suspect, just as annoying to young people as young people who think they have all the answers are to old people. These two sides have lived in peace for millennia...

We should care for and respect the elderly, not because they are elderly, but because they are PEOPLE.

This is the kind of comment I want to see framed on walls in peoples homes.

Unpopular opinion: I actually quite enjoyed Ready Player One. I listened to the audiobook so maybe that helped. That being said, I also enjoyed The Da Vinci Code and Girl On The Train so my taste isn't exactly high-brow.

@alistercat: its the Best playing GTA to date. I still like the story from Vice City the best but GTAV definitely had its moments. Miles above the trash fire story that was GTA4.

@danryckert Kirby hugging/kissing/babybirding his allies is completely harmless!

Seriously though, Kirby is pretty much Nintendo's platforming franchise for very young kids (in contrast with Mario for everyone, DKC for more hardcore people, imo).

My son is almost 4 and he loves hugging and kissing so I guess from my perspective it's not strange to see this kind of loving activity in a game aimed at kids that age.

I'm borderline offended by the suggestions that Kirby is "just hugging". HAL themselves called it a kiss on an Iwata Asks interview. Face the facts! Kirby kisses and shares their food and it's kinda gross but kinda cute too!!

Old people are indeed wiser simply because they lived longer and experienced a whole lot, but a truly abhorrent person will not simply be better elderly person just because he/she is wiser.

People on-line who talk about how good at shit they are while telling everyone else to not fuck up and just do a simple thing are the ones who fuck up simple things every time, yup.

kirby characters giving each other a little smooch to heal doesnt necessarily mean that theyre like regurgitating their food into each others mouths. theyre empowered by the power of hot dogs to give healing kisses. and that's the tea.

on a lamer note idk why dan is playing/being assigned kirby games because it seems like hes just not interested in them

also idk why theyre so down on games coming to the 3ds. im still playing 3ds games

So, weirdly, I didn't have images of any of them bathing before now, and even more weirdly I still don't. Even MORE weirdly, I just imagine their Sims bathing. Send help.

Anyone who wants to talk about the Blops 4 logo being 'stupid', check out this deep dive Eurogamer did on exactly that!

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-03-09-we-talked-to-the-british-museum-about-the-logo-for-call-of-duty-black-ops-4

I distinctly remember that coming up in a puzzle book I read when I was younger (though I can't remember if it was IIII/IV or VIIII/IX). I want to say it was some matchsticks-esque puzzle and it deliberately used the less-common/known form to throw you off. What a weirdly specific piece of information to have retained some 15 years later....

That said, I think the Black Ops IV (couldn't resist :p) logo looks silly - it just doesn't read as "Four".

I find it at odds to say something like ITB is boring whilst enjoying point and click adventure games.

I think the reason Dan doesn't connect with Kirby games is because they aren't really focused on super solid platforming. To me they mostly exist to be a refreshing breeze. Kirby is actually my favorite Nintendo franchise because of this.

Especially recently I've found myself being drawn to games that just let me blow of steam and relax. I still like challenging stuff in moderation, but sometimes I just need the video game equivalent of a warm hug. Which is exactly what Kirby is for me.

With that said I played the demo for the Switch one and also came away from it pretty underwhelmed. It just doesn't feel like it does anything remarkable to the Kirby formula other than adding 3 extra party members which I didn't think felt fun or cool or whatever. Maybe things pick up in the full version, but I don't know... It just didn't stand out in any way for me.

My favorite Kirby games are:

Epic Yarn for it's very obvious embrace of my earlier sentiment of just being terminally pleasant and incredibly inventive in its presentation.

Triple Deluxe since I feel like the 3DS iterations were the most refined in their controls and this one also does some cool stuff to change up the Kirby game formula with the Super Nova power/sections. By the end of this game it goes straight up Dragon Ball with how those extreme sucking powers play out.

and finally Planet Robobot for the same solid controls as Triple Deluxe, but the mechanical aesthetic is a welcome change to typical Kirby visuals. Kirby mech (!!!). As well as having the robotic overhaul of a lot of the familiar bosses causing some really cool new fights instead of just retreading the same old same old like Star Allies seemed to do in the demo. Also the last hour of this game is INSANE; Kirby turns the Kirby mech suit into a gigantic anime space ship and fights a moon that turns into a giant face and uses lasers, giant numbers, and different household objects the size of astral objects to attack you. I feel like it does not get talked about enough.

This is exactly how I feel about the Kirby games, too. They've always been the purest definition of a video game for me which is: doesn't feel like work, lets me unwind, and more importantly I tend to smile / be happy playing it.

@jwat: The two are not linked. Different people have different interests. ITB is not universally interesting to everyone, while point and click adventure games have once had a huge audience and are just a different sort of game.

God bless @danryckert. His fanboy stuff used to annoy me a little, but I'll be damned if it wasn't refreshing to hear him freak over the new Warioware. In this increasingly cynical-ass world, we need more truly happy moments. All people seem to do on the internet is bitch and it's been bleeding into real life for quite some time.

Dan is grossed out by this Kirby thing, but taking used soda cups out of the trash at movie theaters and reusing them is a-ok?

P.S. Don't even try that 'I washed it' nonsense on me. Rinsing does not make that hygienic. ;)

I've said it before, but yes, it's a damn shame GTA V never had story DLC. Having DLC on-par with GTA IV's (which were amazing) but with the added character-switching mechanic that V had would've been spectacular. GTA Online can be fun, and I definitely had my moments in it with friends, but I would trade half of those away for story DLC. And I disagree with Alex - I quite liked V's story.

I've never even considered or heard of people taking both a shower and bath in one sequence of events. ...Why do that? That's just overkill.

Three things killed built-in cheat codes: achievements becoming the norm, DLC/microtransactions/paid anything after initial sale price, and the internet in general. I, too, kind of miss cheat codes. I always was looking for them and using them because I suuuuuuuucked at games as a kid and could never beat anything without cheating. I still didn't end up finishing most of my games.

Catching up on this, cannot overstate my fury at all the "Alexa" spam. Finally just unplugged the damn thing, because OH MY GOD.

Just...man, people with large audiences, please try to be aware of that. It's one thing if you do it deliberately as a joke, but the thoughtless spamming is just unbearable.

I think calling GTAV's story bad is a bit much. It's not Rockstar's best work, but it's totally serviceable.
