Playdate: Mordhau (05/10/2019)

This was really fun and thanks for doing a playdate of this game. Ever since I saw Ben play it I was hoping we would see the beast crew get into it.

Please try battle royale next time you get a chance to and find out how to scream (default is V) because it will increase Dan's enjoyment of the game 2000 fold.

Also, I've seen lots of this game and you guys finally convinced me to buy it. I just wish I could turn off the text chat.

Also I can confirm if you buy the game right now you will still get the 10,000 gold they are giving out for server issues. I dunno when that ends but it was incentive for me to get it today.

Weird, the stream is still running for me, at the moment I see GBE talking with GBW about Mortal Kombat (I think), clearly not knowing they are live.

Great having Dan back and deeply engaged in the game! The Red Alert 2 stream feels like ages ago.

Great material. For some reason this makes me want to watch Dan play Witcher.

@anssih: Behind the scenes footage!? Were they talking to each other using different names and had different UK accents? I always wanted to know how the actor who plays Dan come up with strange stories on the fly.

@merxworx01: Nah, seems it was a recording session for a future Q&A-like feature (podcast maybe), the stream stopped shortly after that. And luckily for them you can't hear much when they are far away from their mics :)

Sad that they don't seem to have known of Chivalry, but glad they now know of Mordhau, which is basically Chivalry 2, by a different studio (Triternion), which is weird, but...they beat Torn Banner to it, I guess.

After Chivalry, Torn Banner made Mirage: Arcane Warfare in 2017, which I didn't even know existed until after it didn't.

Don't know what they're up to now. If it's Chivalry 2 then that's awkward.
Because Mordhau is a A LOT like Chivalry.
To the point that when Ben said in the quick look that Mordhau is by the Chivalry folks, you can't really fault him for presuming that to be the case. If people were told that this is Chivalry 2, everyone would believe it.

It's like those "Game X remade in UE4" you used to see, only these people made the sequel to the game they're fans of. It's kind of amazing.

I've been loving this GBE PC multiplayer content lately!

This game looks fantastic, I've never been a big multiplayer guy but a melee focused seige game sounds great, may just pick this up! I love how chaotic it is, and I agree that with blood everywhere it's sometimes hard to discern in the heat of the moment who allies and enemies are, but I think that's rad and realistic.

I agree with other users - I want to see another playdate with this someday, please!

@vibratingdonkey: I haven't even seen the QL, so seeing this it was super weird how nobody mentioned Chivalry, and I kinda assumed it's by the same studio until I looked it up.

What a weird thing, especially in terms of pricing: This sells for 25€ on Steam where Chivalry is still 23€. Tho with some deal hunting Chivalry can be found for as cheap as 5€ and it still holds up rather well, Will Smith played some with chat during last years Extralive stream, real fun times.

Loved Chivalry. REALLY dislike the crowd that setting tended to attract back then, let alone in 2019. And it can only get a LOT worse when the females patch comes out (let alone the skin color one).

Competitive online games tend to have utter garbage fanbases. Gamers tend to decry Blizzard and Ubisoft for "censoring" their freedom of speech by heavily moderating toxic behavior, but I sure would like to play my videogames without racist remarks plaguing my chat and and racist caricatures popping up in my kill feed.

Americans and English speakers in general get a lot of things wrong when they try to use loose Spanish words, but for some reason this one sounds like scratching a chalkboard to me.

Yes, this has been an issue for years in gaming on public servers, and internet in general I guess. Some communities more than others though, I gotta say.
My observation is that this is more likely to happen in communities where:

* The game is popular, mainstream/casual and easy to get into. Example: More so with games like Call of Duty than Arma. Arma 3 however got more streamlined, focused on action, hence more crap on MP servers compared to Arma 2, which were more niche.
* How action packed the game is. This is also about depth in some manner, but compare a game like Ace Combat with Digital Combat Simulator.
* Young age and or immature players. This is related to the above points.

The above is generally speaking, there are always abnormalities to any model.

I'm of course not saying that it's immature to like mainstream, casual action games, I like them as well, but perhaps less so these days. I had more enjoyment in these kind of games when younger. And when I play them I prefer doing so with friends, in a team over VOIP, and I never really have to read the chat.
Annoying people in the in game VOIP I just mute if they misbehave too much. Sure, it would be better in you didn't have to, but it's just how it currently is.

Have not played this game but it really seems like it needs an option to turn off friendly fire. Randos running around purposely attacking allies is a bummer in games like this.

This may be easier for watching instead of playing but never the bottom when you're reticle is over someone, it says ally or enemy. That's definitely easier than second guessing based on armor.
