Quick Look: BaBa Is You

Even if the puzzles in this quick look seem simple, this game goes *places*.

Been looking forward to this game since I played the game jam version and it has not disappointed. Seriously the most interesting puzzle game in years.

The deck should really be “Look is Quick” based on the general syntax of the game :P (since it is usually “object IS attribute”)

I’ve been obsessed with this game since it came out, it is absurdly clever and well designed. So many great “aha!” and “holy cow!” moments so far. I feel like I’m to the point in the game where the solutions are pretty difficult and I can’t tell whether my solutions are the “intended” ones or not, which is a pretty wild feeling.

Genuinely one of my favorite games ever (puzzle or otherwise)...I recommend people check it out.

Haha, the game is not REALLY simple...it gets very difficult quickly. Good game, but don't think this is an easy game.

Complain about how Google misses the obvious 'outside the box', but then inexplicably overlook the blindingly obvious 'Look is Quick' for the nonsensical 'Quick is Look' :D

Dang, glad I finally watched some footage of this game. I love me some open ended puzzle wording.

I adore this game. It's kind of like a more accessible Zachlike, as someone who really, really loves Zachlikes.

Great game, the rules are simple but the puzzles build up nicely and it gets pretty tricky.

@jaypethian: I thought Baba was a rabbit, just based on the ears. BABA is also something a kid might call a bunny. I've seen people make the case that Baba is a sheep because a female sheep is a "ewe", so Baba is Ewe. In the end, I think Baba is all of us.

That goddamn crossed rules puzzle in the hedges killed me for ages! This game is a really innovative and joyous thing on my switch, absolutely loving it

Listening to the Bombcast, I didn't quite get it. However, seeing it in action, I'm going to go home and buy this game

I normally hate puzzle games, because I'm dumb as a brick, but i picked this game up day 1 after seeing it on a random speedrunning event which caused me to DL the free version. I'm only up to world 4/5 (Whatever you'd call the split area) and had to leave most of World 3 alone and I'm already stumped but boy is this game charming and I don't regret it a bit.

Baba Is You is so damn good and as a game designer I am so incredibly jealous and happy for its design. I love it.

I think this game looks great, but that art style with everything constantly twitching around really bothers me.

This game is extremely good and everyone should pick it up. Man, does it get pretty damn hard pretty much right after that water area. Especially when you get stuff like "not" and can mess around with the text objects themselves. It was really funny when I put "Not Rock Is Baba" and turned ever object in the level into Baba.

Holy mother, this is this year's Antichamber.

Big warning out there for anyone who looks like they might be into this, this mother gets HARD. And sometimes it gets hard in a way that, in my opinion, isn't exactly fun. They'll assign unchangeable rules to objects so you're forced to solve puzzles in very strict ways.

Also, some later attributes, like "swap" or "all" can be vague in surprising ways that don't seem fair. You're never clear as to which verb has prominence. For example, something can be "win" and "push" but push always takes prominence so you can't touch it. However, you can "swap" into it, but that's never actually explained so I had to go online to look it up.

I mean, the game is great, but if stuff like that bothers you maybe be careful.

The sprite definitely looks like a rabbit to me, but based on the game name, I feel like it MUST be a sheep.

Not sure if it will matter to you, but there actually IS an option to turn off the wiggle in game. I personally think it looks way worse with the wiggle off (since then it is just very rough looking art). Maybe I have an affection for it since it reminds me of animated shows I grew up with like Dr. Katz and Home Movies that employed a similar style.

Rock is lava should have turned the rock to lava.. where's the logic? WHERE? Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!

Honestly though, I don't know if i can get behind a puzzle game about logic that doesnt follow it's own internal logic.

@tanstaafl: Didn't it turn the rock to lava though? When he is on the lava level and pushes the words to make rock is lava the rock turns into a 1 tile pool of lava.

I'm excited to play this - I love a good logic based puzzle game.

This is also a good game to learn about programming and logic thinking.

This gets hard almost stupidly fast, but it's an amazing game nonetheless.

I'm playing through this on Switch right now and I'm utterly hooked. It's rare that getting stuck on a puzzle feels delightful but that's where this game put my headspace.
