The gang continue their fortnightly arguments about gym etiquette and where to get the best tacos in Shibuya. We also reminisce about the games that made us who we are with a special–and incredibly tall–guest.

Every other week, tune into 8-4 Play for talk about video games, Japan, and Japanese video games, straight from the 8-4 offices in beautiful downtown Tokyo. Hosted by 1UP Japan's own Mark MacDonald, John Ricciardi, and Hiroko Minamoto.

The moment I heard the Seibzehn theme from Xenogears in the intro a wave of memories came flooding back. That soundtrack is genuinely an all time great in my mind as I can recall so many tracks purely by their melodies at a moment's notice. I'm going to have to look up that concert at some point because that's something I would love to hear for myself. As much as I love XG I'd exclude it over FF7 in a fatal four-way list whatever thing. I'm old enough to know that the game does not age well and has many flaws that are hard to ignore but it really was an informative game that helped shape my taste for the straight up weirdness you can only get out of Japanese games, RPGs in particular. I think a number of JRPGs before and after are simply better designed, but I may not have dove as deep into some of that stuff before I played FF7 if I'm being true to myself. I never miss an episode of this podcast so while I don't always say it I'm always grateful for 8-4.

Well 8-4 was one of the only podcasts I've listen to that even mentioned the Sakura Taisen news from Sega Fes. A surprising number of people, or maybe not so surprising, seem to have no idea this franchise exists or that So Long, My Love was ever released in America.

I'm guessing there aren't many Yakuza fans at 8-4 'cause they haven't talked about the release of Yakuza 6. Even back in Dec. of '16 I think they only briefly mentioned it. It's a shame; I'd really like to hear there thoughts on the series (if they were fans of it).
