After having played Chrono Trigger I'd recommend Jess play Final Fantasy 6 before moving to 7, I think she'd appreciate another SNES JRPG before moving to Playstation.

I would personally love it if Jess went straight into Chrono Cross. Its insanity is enhanced when Chrono Trigger is fresh in your mind, and I want to hear ART THOUGHTS about it.

Dude. If someone started with Chrono Trigger and loved it (Jess), the next logical step forward is Final Fantasy 6.

The website that was harassing people and trying to make those people kill themselves reminds me of that Netflix documentary about the guy who ran the revenge porn site in the 2000s called "The Most Hated Man On The Internet". And just like this situation, it took something horrible happening and a certain hacker group people might have heard of to bring him down.

And IMO Jess would be better off playing FFIV or VI SNES versions before jumping into FFVII the PS version.

The game length thing is kind of interesting. For some reason we automatically think that JRPGs (or any RPG for that matter) are these huge long games. The thing is, Chrono Trigger ain't that long. It's like a 25 hour game. Like 85% of modern big budget games are much longer. You can basically finish Chrono Trigger thrice over in the time it takes you to finish any Ubisoft game.

There are also super long RPGs of course, but at this point most games are long as heck. The Last of Us Part II is longer than Chrono Trigger.

Calling Her Story the "same game" as Immortality is such a strange argument to hold against it. With that logic a lot of games would be too similar. It was a strange discussion anyway, nothing about the story, the way it controls (which is super well done) the way it looks (Ambrosio looks so good!), or the acting. And all of these things are completely different from Barlow's other games.

I think Jess should consider giving Xenogears a go. Actually, considering how much Xenoblade has finally blown up over the last two games everyone should go back and play Xenogears.

@thaquoth: Yeah, I've gone back to a couple of old JRPGs in recent years and it's wild realizing how kinda short they are (unless you try to like, 100% them, but that's on you). People act like every JRPG is Persona (which IS super long), but a lot of them fall into 20-30 hours which I find to be totally reasonable. Even the multi-disc PS1 FF games are about that long!

Given that Jess likes 90s horror games, maybe the gothic horror themed JRPG Koudelka for the PS1 could be something? It spawned the Shadow Hearts series that's apparently making some kind of return, probably in pachinko form just like Silent hill.

I have to add that Jake Butt's position is TIGHT END.

Star Ocean 2 is one of my favorite JRPGs. Fantastic cast of characters, fun combat, neat story and lots of great locations.

Its the thing about these people, they're not powerless, and they have even more powerful people funding and defending them.

There's something really weird and awkward about Jess' laughing-while-trying-to-say-something-controversial mannerism.

Not sure how well it would show with the old graphics but damn i would LOVE to see anyone on staff play through Final Fantasy 6 at some point. I think they would really enjoy the crazy plot the game has.
