Stop looking at chat, Jerome.

Luckily it all gets easier after Chained Ogre.

OK, a tip for never running out of spirit emblems. You can buy them at sculptor's idols (bonfires). Every time I was at a sculptor's idol and I had some extra money, I'd spend some of it on spirit emblems. By midway through the game, I'd amassed hundreds of extras. Every time I died, they would refill. I had a full stack of 15 going into every boss fight.

I don't know if this is the optimal way to spend money in the game, but you lose money when you die, so spending some of it on spirit emblems just seems like a good way to save yourself from ever having to farm.

You've reminded me that I did change the controller setup. The default setup is quite bad, IMO. I'm pretty sure I put block on the X button and moved dodge/sprint to the A button. That way, they both naturally sat underneath my right thumb allowing for easy access. I found the left bumper to be way too mushy and difficult to use with precision, causing me to drop blocks/deflections, and also my left hand would start to strain after a while. With block on the X button, I never dropped any button presses, and it was also easier to feather the block when I wanted to. I moved jump over to the B button where the dodge/sprint originally was.

As far as the "Combat Skills" go, I didn't find them very useful. A lot of people like the Ichimonji, and I used it a bit, but in most cases I preferred simply using normal attacks. You may get more mileage out of them than I did, though. I focused on getting the passive skills I wanted first, such as increasing the Healing Gourd's potency, increasing the Mikiri's posture damage, or increasing the money and item drops from enemies.

Great job taking down the Chained Ogre! I cracked up when he threw you off the mountain...

The Chained Ogre is what killed my interest in the game when I started playing it. Just when I was getting used to the counter based gameplay, From Software throws this ridicules mid-boss with targeted attacks and throws making it hard to dodge. I did beat him eventually, and the other people are right, you have to get in its face and keep attacking, and then block and time your dodge so he doesn't home in on them. You'll find that finally beating him is more so luck than skill.

Back at the old lady and her son, just before the chained Ogre, climb the rock wall to the left of the gate beside them, there's something up there that is VERY useful for a lot of enemies and bosses.

Awesome to see you playing this btw

These are a lot of fun just like the Bloodborne ones were Jan!

I hope you can seek out the Mist Raven tool in an upcoming episode, it's sort of off the beaten path but it's accessible to you now. I highly recommend getting it because it's a ton of fun to use.
