As a dude who works in a big corporation, having these conversations at work would so get me sent to HR. Can't believe they get to chat this way on company time. ;-)

Y'all are ragging on the wrong game. Granted it hasn't aged well, but Shadow Man was actually pretty dang good.

@voidburger If you can deal with the jank of a game that came out in 1999, I legit recommend giving it a shot. It's got the dark and spooky thing going on that you love, and it gets pretty wild from a story pov that sends you to some unexpected places.

WTF! You shit on Looper and not even explain why you think it's a bad movie. I haven't seen it in a long time, but I remember really liking it. Also using a microwave for time travel is straight up taken from Steins;Gate.

Also does Jason have an affinity for bad games? It's like that is all that he brings.

1:11:37 - Bakalar mentions fridge humping and nobody thought of Wet Hot American Summer? For shame.

Also @janman: You joked near the end, but there's really a goofy train racing series called Densha de D. The source material is where that "multi-track drifting?!?" meme came from.

Games that don't need sad stories needs to stop having sad stories. Most of the time it adds nothing to the game. It's just the developers having a big ego and thinking they have something unique to tell the world, when in fact they don't. They should just be making a fun physics based traversal platformer without cliché sad piano music and paralyzed children.

Also doesn't help that the level of storytelling in most games still is the equivalent to a David Cage game.

That Shadow Man Danny was perfect! Time Loader looks fun, but that background music really threw me off.

Shadow Man occupies a special place in my childhood and I hear the remaster by Nightdive is a really solid job, not only bringing the game up to 4K but actually restoring some levels and enemies that were scrapped from the original release.

Looper is also a really fun movie y'all are crazy.

lol WELL, it seems like whenever I expound on why I don't like a thing, the comments kinda focus on that, being like "wow, such negativity in this episode..." so I dropped it cuz I didn't feel like having that happen. But OH WELL, here we go:

Yes, it's a movie that hand-waves its own paradoxes away, which a lot of people seemed to think was funny/cute/honest, to have Bruce Willis literally say "don't think too hard about how time travel works," but I found it to be pretty lazy, the movie giving up on having internal consistency, and urging us not to call it out on that. And in specifically calling itself out on that, it actually had the opposite intended effect for me: I was more scrutinizing of the film's logic than I would have been otherwise, because it explicitly told me not to think about it.

Also there was a major plothole that extremely stuck in my craw, that I couldn't get away from. So, in the future, murder is like, even MORE illegal. So illegal that the accepted way to murder people is to send the victim back in time to be murdered by someone who existed before the sci-fi bullshit that eliminates assassins on the spot. Ok. No prob. I'm on board.

But Bruce Willis's wife, in the sci-fi-anti-murder future is assassinated by a mafia or something, leading to all the events of the movie cuz Bruce Willis wants to save his wife from being assassinated. B..but.... you can't just... the whole cavaet of the world is... YOU CAN'T JUST MURDER PEOPLE IN THE FUTURE. Was there something I missed there that makes it okay for those guys to simply kill this lady?

And also that unintentionally hilarious scene I mentioned in the stream, where that guy's limbs were falling off mid-chase scene because, in the past, he was being tortured/dismembered... as if that was happening concurrently and not... in the past... but WHOOPS i watched the movie wrong because it told me "don't think about how time travel works."

@voidburger: The time travel mafia murder thing is a legit plot hole, but the limbs coming off is just how time travel works in that movie. The movie is showing us by example: alter something in the past, and it affects the future immediately with no ripple effects. it sucks that the future-murder-wife thing got overlooked so hard because it is the one things that doesn't stand on its own within the story and is pretty friggin glaring. Unless I'm forgetting something though (haven't seen it in years), the way it treats its timey-wimey stuff is internally consistent otherwise.

Ah, it was actually Shadow Man 2 (or Shadow Man: 2econd Coming, if you will) that had the whole "Hey, should we advertise our game on actual tombstones?" marketing campaign, not the first game.

I think I only ever played a very poorly running demo of it back in the day on my pc. Looks a bit too dated to try again now, for me anyway.

@voidburger: I personally think Looper is overrated. Even though it's still heavily flawed, I found Primer to be a more interesting time travel movie, yeah I know it's a very different type of movie but it was a big influence on Rian Johnson when working on Looper.

@voidburger: sorry for any of the weird harsh comments but Thanks for the note I was actually wondering your perspective.

Thought it made sense to me if your reaction to the whole movie if your reaction to the disappearing limbs part was funny instead of nightmare fuel. Maybe this is a style thing? I can let plot holes go if the movie makes up for it in other ways. Seem this movie didn’t do much in any way on your end.

There was a brief time in my high school, around '01 or '02 when people said "bounce to the ounce".

Did anyone else experience this?

This Easy-E song is the first place I've heard it since then.

Sadly, Jeff is again a casualty of color-blindness at 1hr46 because he cannot see the red line on screen that shows the attack vector for both his car and his opponent. It happens so often where I say to myself "Can he not see the – ooooooohhhhhh. Damn."
