C4's top ten of 2017

It is 2:20 am January first and I just got home so instead of bed its list time.

Games I didn't play that I may get to at some point

Forza 7 - will get when I get an Xbox one x, have played every Forza since 2 and am not stopping now, between horizon 3 being borderline perfect and getting project cars 2 for my racing wheel rig I didn't have time to put towards this in 2017.

Cuphead - looks cool

Assassin's creed origins - ran like shit on my launch Xbox one, I've seen enough of the game to know I want to play it through but am not going to until. I upgrade to an Xbox one X which will be the next time an AAA first party title comes out (halo 6 for example)

Evil Within 2 - I played half of the first game and put it aside to play later, and I want to finish that before playing 2, looks great though.

Tekken 7 - solid Tekken game, never been a big fan of the series but it does the online lobby with your buddies way better than street fighter and has a better net code. Mkx is better

Mario odyssey- Mario is and will always be a game where you get to the end of a level, I haven’t loved a Mario game since the switched to 36 and made it a treasure hunt/collection game.

Honorable mentions

Battlefront 2- got it cheap knowing there were shenanigans, purely for the single player, Was better than expected

Cod ww2 - I really enjoyed the campaign and the zombies are good, have zero interest in the multiplayer and I hope refocusing on the single player is what Activision does moving forward.

Gran Turismo sport - got it for my brother for Christmas played about 6 races, it plays looks and feels great, if my racing wheel worked properly with this or Forza 7 didn't exist I would get this in a heartbeat PlayStation exclusive people are not missing out on a solid racing game.

Wolfenstein 2 the new colossus - I like killing nazis this lets me do so in ludicrous fashion and it looks and plays solid, never been a Wolfenstein guy but this and the last two iterations have been great, controls like shit compared to the first person shooter that has come out since the last Wolfenstein game, still cool.

What remains of Edith Finch - in years past I wouldn't even have to bother with this based on its title and screenshots but after the masterpiece that was last years “firewatch” I was determined to give this year “best story” a fair shot. it was good but not challenging, and you had no real input to the story, it was already written so to speak.

Nier - looks and controls like a Wii u game, struggled to get past that to give the story a chance, will get back to it in the new year.

List items

  • PC- I love this game, it is not the best game but I had the most fun playing it. I am pretty good at this game to the point where I was quickly getting chicken dinners in solo and was mostly dying to RNG related bullcrap and random asshats hiding in a bathtub for 30 mins and calling that fun, that put me off solo, co-op and squad, on the other hand, I never got sick of, the biggest problem was that as an adult it's hard not only to make time but to make time when my squad or duo crew is available as a result I only played 100hours of this instead of the 4-500 I would have if I were a teenager or retired, and that was all pre 1.0 the game keeps getting better and I think it's got quite a bit of legs left in it. Golf clap player unknown, you did your customers right.

  • WiiU- My favourite game ever is “link To the past” my favourite game in the past 10 years that isn't by naughty dog is skyrim, easy to see how this game got me and got me good, I played this daily till well after I should have started sleeping all while working a 60h week, I skipped meals, showers, let laundry and empty water bottles Pile up, I went full teenager, but I have no interest in playing it again, in my mind it has no replay value, I saw it all. you can't play it again as a different character with different skills, you can't say "to hell with it this time I'm going to be a wizard" like you can in Skyrim. You play the melee guy and that is ok and there are a few different weapons ie. staffs ..., but it's not quite game of the year good.

  • PS4- Another perfectly executed action adventure game by naughty dog, they really make games perfect for my taste, this game has so many perfect little touches you don't expect like backtracking down your companions path to find treasure only to have them say “ooh I must have missed that”. I really want more uncharted be it a direct sequel to this with the girls or another spin-off, this series doesn't need the brilliant character that is Nathan Drake it just needs naughty dogs perfect character and story arcs. I could play a naughty dog character driven story every year for the rest of my life. Perfect world it would be last of us 2 2018, lost legacy sequel 2019, new IP 2020 and a drake sequel 2021 (even if his daughter is the protagonist and he and his Mrs are the Sullys)

  • PC- The best resident evil since 4 and I loved playing 5 co-ops, nice change of direction especially since evil within is doing the tank control horror game thing better than I think today's Capcom can muster.

  • PS4- I went to Japan on holiday in the 2017 year (saw Kenny omega vs Okada 3 live and omega vs Naito for the g1 title), I loved the real city, I love the world in this game. I think the next sequel will be dope, I'm only about ¼ of the way into this and it's getting better

  • Xbone- It is not as good as the stick of truth, it lacks in comparison in almost every category, that said it was still great and I would play a sequel.

  • Switch- a solid game the combat is as good as Tenkaichi 3 minus the mandatory motion controls, I'm a fan of the series and turned off xenoverse one after an hour. but played this one right through and enjoyed it, the game has beautifully animated cutscenes that look as good as the TV show (dragon ball super) and the story was engaging to the end, it's the side missions that let this down, too repetitive and too laborious to get around, solid humor and ran great on the switch, I do recommend to fans of dragon ball.

  • Switch- I like xcom, this is a beautifully executed Mario and Rabbids themed xcom rip off and I love playing it, surprisingly like xcom. It actually gets challenging and about 3 hours too long, Would gladly pony up for a sequel

  • Switch- member Mario kart 8? Member the DLC? Yes to both, it's that with a few small changes in the switch, that's sound great? Why yes, yes it does. What this game needed was the equivalent of two more DLC packs, played it plenty and enjoyed it.

  • PC with wheel and cockpit- I like to race cars around tracks, one, in particular, stands out “Bathurst” the greatest race track on earth IMHO, I would have done that in gran turismo sport had my wheel(g27) been ps4 compatible, I would have in forza 7 had the demo not failed download 4 times and put me off trying to play forza on pc instead of xbox so I went the third option project cars 2, I played the first game it was solid and so is this sequel, great vehicle simulation, good enough graphics, and most importantly it is on steam so it downloads, works with a -g27 and has Bathurst.
