In this worst of years, 2016 was a great time to escape this horrid new world in the warm embrace of video games. And yet, as always, I tended to play games that game out in earlier years. Some were OK, most were great.
So, in no particular order, here are all the I played and completed/saw the credits for in 2016.
Apparently, this is the first game I beat this year.
I actually remember starting and beating this game during one of Giant Bomb's GOTY deliberation podcasts. That's either a very short game or a very long podcast.
The main character of this game doesn't hate computers, but I still remember this guy yelling at a guy in the middle of a mutant-flooded riot in an infected Manhattan for 4 MINUTES.
Apparently, the victim of this verbal abuse did bad things to the main character, but I was too busy throwing buses at mutants.
Every time I think of this makes me yearn for either a Panzer Dragoon ORTA re-release on PC or just a great rail shooter on Steam.
This year is yet another disappointment in that regard.

...Apparently not, since I thought I beat this 2 years ago. Based on my Steam game details, I beat this in early Feburary.
I do remember playing this game in French, so whenever a futuristic billboard kept talking about 'barbarians,' it sounded like it was saying 'baba.' In turn, I just kept thinking Toriel was leading a bunch of monsters on an attack on Neo-Paris.
Also, of course, Paris is called 'Neo-Paris' in this cyberpunk dystopia.
Man, I forgot I played this game *this* year. What a surprisingly boring and unmemorable game with a great aesthetic.
I got the GOTY version of the game sometime around October for about $30, and I spend over 200 hours on it (i.e. the original game and the two expansions)
I'd say more about this wonderful highly produced fan fiction for a book franchise almost no-one who played the game actually read, but other more eloquently spoken people already have.
If you could only buy one game (and already have Overwatch and DOOM), then look no further than
It's Hard Reset: Enhanced Edition with a (mostly) useless sword; it's still a great Doom clone for those who don't have DOOM 2016, even for a year where DOOM 2016 was amazing
