10 Most Interesting & Mechanically Diverse Zombie Games

unfinished notes...

List items

  • Dead Rising uses zombies as an environmental harard which places emphasis on navigation and improvisation in order to deal with them. The real genius of the game comes from the restriction of the time limit which governs the pace of the game and keeps the "what would you do if zombies attacked?" flame that has kept the zombie genre burning.

  • Dying light uses zombies to encourage platforming by making them a hazard to be avoided. This mechanic is flipped during night time when more powerful zombies come out, adding to a sense of pressure.

  • Slow, lumbering, but not to be underestimated. RE's zombies can kill you in a few bites but learning to deal with them in a resourceful manner becomes a game in and of itself. Crimson heads and other creatures spice up the formula to keep you improvising.

  • Just like the comic and TV show, "walkers" are used as a backdrop for conflict between characters as a microcosm for the breakdown and rebuilding of civilisation.

  • Become proficient at typing whilst killing zombies.

  • More interesting as a social experiment than an enjoyable game. DayZ may have had it's day in the spotlight but it deserves recognition for being a unique concept.
