Games Played in 2013

Yup, the list returns, this time with more 2013. I got married this year so the time I'd normally have was way limited as the wedding got closer.

List items

  • I am 50 hours in and only a couple months into the game in-game time. Something tells me I've been playing it completely wrong.

  • 1180/1195. All I have left to do is beat the idiotic Street Fighter DLC with Akuma. That DLC is complete crap.

  • BEAT 950/1000. Beat January 8. This is a game with a lot to say, but that doesn't make it a particularly great game to play. I may have messed up by playing on Suicidal difficulty, though. Still, a lot of great design ideas going on here. Last achievement left is beating the game on FUBAR, something it is highly likely I will NEVER accomplish.

  • 350/1000. Beat co-op campaign January 11. I'm only a little way into the single-player story (chapter 3), but I'm enjoying the mechanics and being rewarded for just about everything you do. And man, what a fantastic intro. That's how you start a game.

  • BEAT 1000/1000. Beat Impossible January 20, before Dead Space 3 comes out. Y'know when you don't hear a good song for a while and when you hear it later you realize it was even better than you remembered? Dead Space is the video game equivalent of that. The sound design is still the best of all time. No exaggeration. Also, like Alan Wake, playing on the hardest difficulty made it a much better game.

  • 0/35. Playing PS3 Collection version in 3D. Bright, colorful, fun. There are a lot of subtle design decisions made that streamline the game in a lot of great ways. Aside from the menu systems this feels like it could have come out in the past couple years and not 10 years ago.

  • BEAT 1200/1250. Re-played on Zealot before Dead Space 3. Finished Severed DLC on Zealot also. I'll probably never get the Hardcore achievement since I hate losing hours of progress to random 1-hit kills, so my work here is done.

  • 815/1000. Played for a livestream we had for No Quarters. This game is still a blast with the right group. It's a shame all we had left at the World Tour venues were the super-long setlists with all the hard songs in the game. Still, fun!

  • 280/1000. Put this in for the NQ livestream since we wanted to play songs that weren't Run To The Hills or Green Grass and High Tides. Lots of fun, and the presentation is pretty great, especially on Ghostbusters!

  • 250/1350. Trying to get back into this game after not really feeling it when I first got it. Still not really feeling it, though sessions without gameplay and just world exploring seem to fare better.

  • 1/???. Picked it up for Vita through PS Plus. This game is way, way hard. I had forgotten how hard it is from back in the Xbox days.

  • 35/1000. What the hell is this I don't even what

  • BEAT 1040/1250. Beat February 18th, beat Awakened DLC March 15th. It's good, but not great. One of those sequels that suffers by comparison to its predecessors, I guess. At least the microtransaction stuff doesn't matter after a couple hours. The ending gets a little too big for it's own good but I still think this one will have some co-op replay value.

  • Tower Defense! Oh god what am I doing

  • 1130/1500. God, I love this game. Jumped back into some multiplayer. I will have to jump back into some more.

  • 20/1000. Enjoying this drift racer on PC in Big Picture Mode. I am not good at drift racers though, and this game definitely proves it.

  • BEAT 1100/1100. Replayed on hard with vita chambers turned off. Time has not been kind to this game. While it had a lot of ambition, that execution has been perfected by countless games since. It's more influential than impressive at this point, sadly.

  • 535/2050. Popped it back in to play the Star Wars tables. Empire Strikes Back is pretty much one of the best tables they've ever put out. Love it. Also got the Plants Vs Zombies achievement on that table.

  • 95/1500. Popped it back in to try Spartan Ops mode. It seems very much to be "we dropped you off here, kill a thousand dudes and we'll pick you up over there." Not particularly fun unless you have a party to play with.

  • 195/1000. Popped in the PC version to play in Big Picture Mode. This is easily one of the best games this generation.

  • BEAT 745/1000. Beat March 9th. This game isn't doing anything new, but everything it does, it does particularly well. Enough for me to go back and get 100% after beating the game. I just wish it wasn't so excessively gory and violent, though.

  • 1075/1550. Beat Citadel DLC March 17th. Put it back in to play some multiplayer and also try out the Citadel DLC. Citadel is fantastic!

  • I got to play the tutorial. No further. Will try more as the week goes on, I guess.

  • 25/1400. Started after beating Bioshock. It's definitely more Bioshock!

  • BEAT 600/1000. Beat April 19th. It's not the haunted house Bioshock was. It's something very different. It's also a little too long for its own good, with subpar shooting mechanics... But all that is made up for by one of the better video game endings I've experienced.

  • Popped it in because my fiancee likes them. It's a shame the physics-based platforming ends up being more frustrating than anything when precision is required. Still, charming game.

  • 180/400. It's got a good sense of humor, even if it can get pretty goofy. Shame the actual poker part isn't terrific, since the AI isn't the brightest. Still, the character interactions are what you're here for.

  • 285/1500. The 1000 Club stuff pulled me right back in. What a fantastic open world racer.

  • 130/1300. Most games try to emulate playing a big, dumb action movie and fail. This one understands how to make it work. It feels like less of an open world game and more of a "this world revolves around you" game.

  • 80/300. It's weird to play a game based entirely on reaction where almost nothing else matters. Kinda nice.

  • BEAT 130/250. Beat May 27th. It looks great, it plays super smoothly and I like it. There isn't much depth to it at all past the mechanics, though. What you see is what you get.

  • BEAT 400/400. Beat May 7th. If you have any love for things that were cool in the '80s like ninjas and cyborgs and synth music and awesome things, this is your game. If you didn't like the mechanics of Far Cry 3, you probably won't like this either, though.

  • 15/48. It's Metroidvania in a Mexican setting! While the art style and music are charming, you can't help but feel like they're pushing their stereotypes a little bit too hard. Still, at least the gameplay is really solid.

  • BEAT 200/200. Beat May 21st. I had the final day of Seven Days Of Hell to go so I sucked it up and played through the monotony of finishing it. Not recommended.

  • 20/1000. A friend loaned this to me claiming it's "not that bad." He lied. Having this on my permanent gamer card record is a disgrace.

  • 95/200. Playing the XBLA version on Ultraviolence. I don't know why either, but it's still fun!

  • 290/1250. Popped this back in to get the taste of Fast & Furious Showdown out. It still holds up, provided you enjoy the kudos-based gameplay, where style is rewarded. I like it.

  • It's a fun game that uses the 3D of the system pretty well. I wish the saves were closer together, though.

  • BEAT 23/57. Beat June 8th. Played for ZGTD.com's Phoenix Down podcast series. A very interesting game that's more than just a series of Quick Time Events. The story reworking itself depending on what you do and who dies is really interesting. Telltale's Walking Dead owes this game a huge debt.

  • Man, I don't know if I'm prepared for the dedication this game will require. Gonna attempt it on Classic mode anyway!

  • BEAT 5/24. Beat July 8th. Naughty Dog refines their formula to make the game a stealth/survival horror hybrid. It works. Amazing opening prologue, too. Some points get frustrating, but I never hated playing it.

  • 2/??. This is way more fun than I ever expected it to be. Now give me a portable version!

  • 250/1500. Restarting to play through the story before GTA5 comes out. While I love the feeling of the world, did I really not notice how ugly the characters and attitudes were the first time around?

  • BEAT 1/14. Beat with 1 character. At first it seems stupid but then you realize there's a bit of depth to it. More fun against other people, though. As every fighting game is.

  • BEAT in October. 19/22. It's more PvZ, but with more microtransactions this time. A LOT more. It's fun and you can beat it without spending money, but again, once you do it's just grinding.

  • BEAT in September. 43/52. Really fun Match 3 game, but not much to do aside from mindlessly level up once you've beaten it.

  • 70/1000. Huge, amazing world. Almost too huge. I let myself get lost in all the side stuff and need to get back to the story. Will I ever do that, now that I have next gen systems to play?

  • PC Version. It's gorgeous and it's more Batman. They could give me just the challenge rooms and I'd probably still pay full price for it.

  • 7/11. Yup, it's Tiny Tower but with a Star Wars skin. They've added some new features, but it also looks like they've made it MUCH more difficult to get bucks without spending actual real world money.

  • 3/51. PS4 version. Beautiful game, the pirate stuff is fun, but the cities still suffer from "the entire population consists of guards" syndrome. Need to play more of this.

  • 10/51. PS4 version. That first level is crazy! After that it's more Call of Duty, for better or worse. Looks great and the framerate never drops.

  • BEAT 14/34. Beat on easy November 20. Fun Defender clone with the Geometry Wars factor of "everything is all over the screen everywhere." Gonna take a while to master this one.

  • BEAT December 18. A great story, the kind video games need to be telling more.

  • BEAT 5/12. Beat December 20. I really like how the mechanics tie into the telling of the story by the end. Really great stuff.
