The Wheel of Dubious RPGs volume 1: Ranked

Every stupid video game I played for my hit blogging/streaming feature "The Wheel of Dubious RPGs" ranked from "most enjoyed" to "least enjoyed." Keep in mind that neither quality nor the game's "dubiosity" ranking really informs this list. It's mostly just what I enjoyed playing for the handful of hours I played stuff on stream.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir and Might and Magic IX will be added to this list once they have been scientifically ranked. But you can assume they rank fairly highly.

  I just really like Wizards and Warriors, okay?

  I'm not gonna pretend this game is good but also as a fan of the series it still does that stuff moderately well.

  3. Two Worlds

  Dubiosity: 4

  The voice acting is pure artistry.

• 

  4. Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir

  Like I'm not gonna claim that everything about this expansion "works" in any major way, but once I remembered the nightmare tangle of D&D 3.5 it turned into a sandbox RPG I'd consider playing more of.

  5. Sudeki

  Like, yeah, I'll admit it: I might want to stream more of the weird horny fake-anime Xbox game.

  6. The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall

  Dubiosity: like a 3

  It's DAGGERFALL, BUT FUNCTIONAL.

  7. Rise of the Argonauts

  All apologies to the people who played this game because of me.

  8. Ultima IX: Ascension

  Dubiosity: 5

  Like don't get me wrong I know this game is actually terrible but also it's actually terrible in the exact way that made for entertaining stream fodder.

  9. Risen

  Made me seriously consider playing a Piranha Bytes game, so there's that.

• 

  10. GreedFall

  The first game from Spiders that actually feels like it has the budget to back up its earnest, slightly deluded ambitions

• 

  11. Nox

  Not really all that dubious, nor an RPG. But it is neat!

• 

  12. Lands of Lore III

  Dubiosity: 4

  This one... this one's a mess. But it's got ideas, at least.

• 

  13. Dungeon Lords

  Dubiosity: 5

  Probably the least functional game on this list and also one of the more fascinating as a result.

  14. Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession

  Dubiosity: 4

  Tell my players to let me run a Ravenloft Campaign

  15. Drakensang: The Dark Eye

  Dubiosity: 3

  Made me want to stream Blackguards, so it has that going for it.

• 

  16. Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga

  Dubiosity: 2

  Here's the thing about Divinity II. It's not good, but it's absolutely playable.

  17. Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator

  JRPG-accurate long battles

• 

  18. Stonekeep

  Dubiosity: 3

  It's got FMV! And that's about it!

• 

  19. World of Aden: Thunderscape

  Dubiosity: 3

  Sadly not as cool as its soundtrack would suggest

• 

  20. Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader

  Man I wish this one was more immediately terrible than it was, which is a strange thing to say

  21. Arcania: Gothic 4

  A big ol' inoffensive nothing blob of a RPG

• 

  22. Betrayal in Antara

  I don't remember what I did for the 90 minutes I played this, other than "the character portraits look like they came out of WikiHow"

  23. The Bard's Tale

  Not even aggressively unfunny enough to be cringe-worthy.

  24. Dungeon Siege III

  At least The Bard's Tale has proper controller support

• 

  25. Game of Thrones

  Profoundly dull

• 

  26. Dungeon Hack

  Dubiosity: 4

  An interesting toybox; not necessarily an interesting game.

  27. Sacred

  I just really don't like middling Diablo Clones, okay? like, this game seems totally fine for what it is, but also I spent the entire stream in a vague state of misery.
