Mike in Metal Gear Solid

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight and I, ZombiePie, am once again honored to be your host as we look back at the site and staff-related news and best user-created works from the previous week! It was the big talking point last week, but Giant Bomb's Game Tracker is still going strong! In fact, Chuck has already deployed some big changes and improvements to the tracker! Normally I would write this information in my own words, but the list Chuck posted on the GB Discord is way more helpful and easier to process:

  • you can hide games you've tracked from the main page
  • Favorite a game, goes to a special spot on your profile
  • added "In Progress" and "Dropped" statuses
  • Modal simplified and cleaned up for rating/reviewing/tracking games
  • search reworked to be more performant/helpful
  • sorting options have been improved and speedy'd
  • can drill down to individual years

And if you're confused and missed the announcement of this feature last week, read this announcement thread, and right now it's being beta tested by premium users only. BUT, for those of you that can't afford Giant Bomb Premium, you're not being left in the dark as making lists, tier lists, and user reviews are now open to ALL USERS! So, if you have been dying to make a copy of a tier list ranking the games in your favorite franchise to "set the record straight," now is the time to do that!

Someone on the Site-Tech-Issues channel on the Giant Bomb Discord pointed out that the Video RSS feed doesn't have feeds for GB Plays and Delight Club, and Chuck has logged that as an oversight he'll try to fix soon, if not already by the time you are reading this. If you notice any other feed omissions you think should be added, feel free to drop a comment in that very channel on the Giant Bomb Discord.

If when you were watching some livestreams around September 8th you got an error code, and to be specific, "Error Code: 102404" this was due to a staff error rather than a specific site issue or a technical problem on your end. The issue shouldn't be happening anymore.

VectorSpecter, a long-time member of the Giant Bomb Fighting Game Community Discord put out a call for more people to join their server if all they want to do is playing fighting games with cool people from around the world. Considering that group dates all the way back to the Street Fighter V days, I think the least I can do is promote their cause.

Colin Hemphill has deployed some handy updates to Blight Club Unauthorized like adding a timeline scrubber and markers for game start dates. None of this changes the fact that Grubb appears to be stuck in Cyberdillo Hell.

As mentioned last week, Dan has an exciting appearance on Fox's The Floor game show and more cameos of his appearance are cropping up like this teaser you can give a watch. Also, the archive of Dan's guest appearance on DidYouKnowGaming LIVE quiz panel at Gamescom 2026 has gone up and it's a real fun watch if you haven't already seen it.

Finally, please join me in wishing AlwaysBeCorgi a belated "Happy Birthday!" Originally one of Giant Bomb's more avid fan artists, they continue to support the staff with Superchats and moral support every imaginable place. So, if you haven't done so already, please join me in saying happy birthday, Corgi, and may the next year in your life be as fun and enjoyable as the previous one, and hopefully you stay as far away from Cyberdillo and Space Ace on the SNES as much as possible!

The Daning (By: thecosmicfly)

Over on the Giant Bomb Discord, thecosmicfly whipped up this fun little work of photoshop goodness depicting Dan as a ghostly figure in everyone's favorite Stanley Kubrick horror film, The Shining. If you want to catch user-created artworks when they usually first drop, consider joining the Giant Bomb Discord, which the link above is an invite to, if you ahven't already joined.

Mike Being Tortured In Metal Gear Solid (By: csl316)

Oh how I am always impressed by how this Community can pool together its creative brain juices over a single remark made by a staff member! Also, special props to csl316 for "inspiring" firehair12000 to make TWO fun Giant Bomb video clips this week!

Mike Would Cave To Metal Gear Solid's Torture In An Instant (By: firehair12000)

After thinking about Dan's quote about how the torture scene in Casino Royale would be one of the worst things to happen to any man, firehair12000 decided to imagine Mike in that very scene AND they also did a Metal Gear version of Mike instantly caving to torture. Both clips are absolute MUST SEES!

Why do some retro games with pixel art still hold up while others don't? That's one of the MANY questions that pauljeremiah attempts to get to the bottom of with this wonderful user article on the site. Also, if you have some thoughts about that question, feel free to share them with him!

Physint

PlayStation Is No Longer Involved In Hideo Kojima's Physint (By: chocobodude3)

It's maybe the biggest individual news item of the week, but what do you make of the situation with Kojima, Sony, and Xbox picking up Physint? Do you think there's a clear side to pick? Do you find the situation impossibly messy?

Let's Talk About The Nintendo Directs! (By: laughingman)

So, that Nintendo Direct, huh? If you're like most people, you probably have thoughts about the games shown and the future of the Switch 2! Do you think the Ocarina remake is living up to the hype? Were there any other Switch 2 teasers that got your attention?

Your Video Games Media Habits (By: csl316)

Time is precious, but where are you spending most of your time consuming gaming-related news and media? Which podcasts or YouTube accounts do you listen to? Which Patreons do you support?

Does Anybody In This Community Stream Their Own Gameplay? (By: doubledaddydan)

Here's a thread that I think has been a long-time coming. How many of you stream games on Twitch or YouTube? Do you have areas of "expertise" or cover specific game genres? Feel free to promote your accounts and give fun pitches for what you do in this thread!

What Are You Playing/Finishing/Abandoning This Week (September 6, 2026 Edition)? (By: laughingman)

For most people in the United States, last week provided a much-needed three-day weekend, and if that includes you, what did you do to fill-in that free time? Did you get any gaming done? Also, did any of you pick up Wolverine despite all of the negative/anemic press about it?

Community Article Stuff (By: atheistpreacher)

In this thread Chuck shared some of their thought process about the state of Community Articles and their visibility and how to help community members writing and publishing on the site. They left no stone unturned regarding the issue so, if that's a feature on the site you care about, definitely give it a read and feel free to share any additional thoughts that you might have.

Reporting Missing Videos on Site (By: trace17)

Just a friendly reminder that if you notice any missing videos or VODs on the site, whether it be a random missing video in a "classic" Giant Bomb program or a recent livestream that never got posted, drop a comment in the thread linked above and try to be as specific as possible about the feature or stream name and the episode number if it is part of a series. Chuck or someone else will try to be on the case as quick as possible.

Games I Rolled Credits On In 2026 (By: korzo2)

With GOTY season breathing down our necks, korzo2 decided to finally set aside some time to annotate and keep track of all the games they rolled credits on in 2026. And if you ever have the time consider joining them in making your own version of this list.

Favorite Video Games of All Time, Ranked (By: mrledz)

Now that lists are available to all users, mrledz decided to whip up a list where they reconsider the games that were on their old Top 10 Games of All Time. This list includes entries from their original list from the old site and some recent games they think punch in the same weight class as childhood classics.

If that sounds like something you'd be interesting in doing on the site as well, feel free to have a god and don't forget to drop a comment on this article to make sure I don't miss you list!

MajorMitch decided to whip up a review sharing their final impressions of Mewgenics on the site. Read why the game rubbed them the wrong way and feel comfortable reviewing it even having not completed it.

scathinghotspur finally sunk in a good chunk of time into Age of Wonders 4 after multiple people told them to give it a shot. However, as they share in their review, it just isn't their cup of 4X for a variety of reasons.

scathinghotspur also reviewed Ball x Pit and shares in their review why they regret waiting to play the game and why it's one of the easiest game recommendations they can think of in a long while.

linksocarina is back reviewing every single Guitar Hero and Rock Band game in chronological order and this week really feels like they are nearing the finish line with this feature as the games they reviewed this week were:
