There's something about wood-paneling on a console that I find irresistible.
It's hard for me to imagine how Cracked Magazine went from the Sylvester P. Smythe covers and weak Back to the Future II parodies (as opposed to Mad's incisive, socially conscious Back to the Future II parodies, I guess) I recall from my youth to its current status as an ever-expanding online database of humorous lists. To its credit, the list concepts are often clever, and they don't always go for the most obvious joke, so more power to 'em.

Video games get mined for humor pretty regularly on Cracked.com, and with more insight than one might expect. Yesterday they posted their list of The 6 Most Retarded Gaming Consoles Ever Released, and I'm equally impressed that they managed to avoid everyone's two favorite examples of a grossly miscalculated video-game system, the Virtual Boy and the Jaguar, and that they didn't feel compelled to try and round the list up to an even 10. They make a pretty strong case for each of these systems' place on the list, and it's little wonder that most people have never even heard of the Epoch Cassette Vision. Though, as an appreciator of failed and obscure video-game technology, it's hard for me to go down this list without popping open an eBay window. What would I even do with a Fairchild Channel F? What the hell is wrong with me?
