Noob Saibot's appearance in Mortal Kombat (2011)

Noob Saibot is a ninja wraith and a regular combatant in the Mortal Kombat franchise. Originally a secret character in Mortal Kombat II as a simple palette swap, Noob's appearance, backstory, and special moves have evolved over the course of the franchise. Risen from the Netherrealm, he served in the Brotherhood of the Shadow, a dark cult centered around the evil sorceror Quan Chi and the fallen Elder God Shinnok. During the events of Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, he served Outworld emperor Shao Kahn. After all of his masters were believed to be perished in the events of Mortal Kombat: Deception, Noob embarked on a quest to dominate Netherrealm (with assistance from a reprogrammed Smoke).

Later in the Mortal Kombat series, it was revealed that Noob is the corrupted reborn identity of Bi-Han, the original Sub-Zero (and elder brother of the current Sub-Zero) who was killed by Scorpion. Playable as Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and Mortal Kombat Trilogy, he has most of the same moves as the younger Sub-Zero.

Noob Saibot is played by Daniel Pesina in Mortal Kombat (as Sub-Zero) and Mortal Kombat II and by John Turk in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (as both Noob and Classic Sub-Zero) and Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (as Sub-Zero). In Mortal Kombat 3, Noob Saibot is a palette swap of Kano (who is played by Richard Divizio). Noob also appears as a secret character in The Grid.

    Story

Noob Saibot as the elder Sub-Zero
Noob Saibot as the elder Sub-Zero

After the events of the first Mortal Kombat tournament, Sub-Zero was killed by Scorpion, who was seeking vengeance for his own death at the hands of Sub Zero during the events of Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero was then believed to be dead, and his place was taken in later Mortal Kombat tournaments by his younger brother, Kuai Liang. However after his death, Sub-Zero's spirit was tainted by the amulet he recovered for Shinnok in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, thus he felt no compassion for anyone anymore as his spirit descended into the Neatherrealm. This allowed Sub-Zero's spirit to be easily manipulated by the fallen elder god Shinnok and the sorcerer Quan Chi, who made his spirit reborn as a member of the Brotherhood of Shadow. Sub-Zero then pledged his loyalty to Shinnok and Quan Chi, who ordered him to spy and report on the events that take place on Outworld and Earthrealm. Sub-Zero took on the identity of Noob Saibot, and lurked in the shadows of each Mortal Kombat tournament.

    Shaolin Monks

Noob Saibot makes a brief appearance in the NetherRealm, being pursued by his younger brother, Sub-Zero, who explains to Kung Lao and Liu Kang that he will stop at nothing to free his brothers' tainted spirit from the clutches of Shinnok.

    Mortal Kombat 3

Noob takes allegiance with Shao Kahn as he invades the Earthrealm, but with the Earth Warriors evident victory at hand, Shinnok ordered Noob to abandon Shao Kahn's side and switch allegiances to the EarthRealm, unbeknown to Shao Khan.

    Mortal Kombat 4

Now serving under Shinnok, the fallen Elder God; Shinnok plans to take over the realms and destroy the Elder Gods who banished him to the Netherrealm. Shinnok is defeated by the Earth Warriors and Raiden, and the brotherhood of shadow is disbanded. Noob has no choice but to once again serve under the order of the weakened Shao Khan.

    Deception

Finding the deactivated remains of Smoke in one of Shao Kahn's fortresses, he reactivates and reprograms the cyborg ninja to serve only him. Noob plans to use Smoke as a stepping stone to create an army of cyber-demons.

    Armageddon

Noob and Smoke decide to attack Sub-Zero's Lin Kuei fortress as the first step in creating their cyber-demon army. However Taven, the protagonist of Mortal Kombat Armageddon, and Sub-Zero defend and hold off the attack. Sub-Zero tries to use this opportunity to return his brother to the light, but Noob and Smoke are able to get away.

    Mortal Kombat

As the original Sub-Zero, Bi Han is sent to the Mortal Kombat tournament by the Lin Kuei to assassinate Shang Tsung and take any treasure that he had. However, this plan was interrupted by Scorpion, who under the belief that it was Sub-Zero that had murdered his family, dragged him to the Netherrealm to do battle. Scorpion initially intends to spare Sub-Zero, as Raiden had promised him that he would ask the Elder Gods to restore Scorpion's clan and family to life for doing so. However, Quan Chi appears and shows to both Scorpion and Sub-Zero what supposedly had transpired when the Shirai Ryu were destroyed. Scorpion is enraged by the vision, and as it ends, Bi Han, badly hurt, tries to explain that he was not the murderer in the vision.

Enraged, Scorpion removes his mask, revealing his skeletal face, and kills Bi Han. He returns to Earthrealm with Bi Han's skull and spine in hand, but his disappointment is visible, as he had failed to meet Raiden's request.

Meanwhile, in secret, Quan Chi resurrects Bi Han, corrupts his soul and uses him as his enforcer under the name of Noob Saibot. Noob subsequently works with Sheeva and guards Kitana against Earthrealm intruders who have come to free her. In performing this duty, he challenges Kung Lao to a fight, but ultimately loses. Kung Lao, sensing something familiar about Noob, questions him about who he is before he passes out after his defeat.

Later, Quan Chi and Noob travel to the final resting place of Sindel, where they perform the ritual needed to resurrect her and nullify the protection her death placed over Earthrealm. Afterward Noob returns to Shao Kahn's throne room where he and Mileena manage to prevent Kabal from attacking Shao Kahn, but is once again defeated in the process.

With the invasion of Earthrealm in full swing, Noob and Quan Chi travel to a graveyard where Quan Chi intends to sacrifice captive marines to summon forth a massive soulnado. During the ritual, Bi Han's brother Kuai Liang, the second Sub-Zero, who has since been turned into a cyborg, arrives on the scene. Upon seeing his brother, Noob engages him and informs Kuai Liang that he is unworthy of the name Sub-Zero, revealing his identity to his brother.

Kuai Liang attempts to convince Noob to change sides, but Noob refuses and states that though they share blood they are not brothers. As they fight, Quan Chi finished the spell and summons the soulnado. After defeating Noob, Kuai Liang fights and defeats Quan Chi. When Noob awakens to find Quan Chi beaten and his brother gone, he instead encounters Nightwolf, who is preparing to disrupt Quan Chi's plan. Desperate, Noob attacks Nightwolf, but Nightwolf kicks Noob into the soulnado, destroying it and presumably Noob as well.

    Endings

    Deception

Noob Saibot and Smoke return to the Netherrealm to construct their cyborg-demon army. When Noob realizes they are being followed by Sub-Zero, he orders Smoke to help assist him in slaying his younger brother. It is in this ending the player is first informed that Noob Saibot is the original Sub-Zero.

    Armageddon

After defeating Blaze, he is transported to a dark arena. Here, he is confronted by the original Sub-Zero who is looking to reclaim his lost soul and body. The two clash but neither of them can get the upper hand. Through this battle a warrior emerges, neither Sub-Zero or Noob Saibot, but someone new.

    Mortal Kombat

Quan Chi should never have resurrected Noob Saibot, nor should he have enhanced his power in order to defeat Shao Kahn. The revenant he created had broken free of his control. Noob had secretly created an understanding with a cleric from the realm of chaos and opened for him a portal to the Netherrealm. Shinnok, Quan Chi, and the Brotherhood of Shadow were unprepared as the forces of chaos overwhelmed them. Leaving the underworld severely weakened, satisfied with his work the cleric Havik returned to the realm of chaos. Noob Saibot remained to seize control of the Netherrealm.

    Special Moves

    Special Attacks / Enhanced

    • Izuna Drop Teleport
    • Portal Trap
    • Projectile
    • Shadow Slide
    • Shadow Tackle

    X-Ray

Noob projects a shadow of himself that grapples his opponent from behind. Noob mercilessly punches the victim in the face right before the shadow knees the helpless one in the spine breaking several ribs and vertebrae. Noob then delivers a vicious kick to the stomach forcing his opponent to vomit.

    Fatalities

    • Make a Wish - Noob and his shadow each grab a leg on the opponent and tug in opposite directions, ripping their victim in half, vertically. The two hold both sides aloft in victory.
    • As One - Noob creates a portal under his opponent and his shadow comes up out of it and drags the opponent down. When his victim is halfway through, Noob closes the portal, cutting them in half at the waist. The beaten warrior crawls towards Noob but bleeds out and dies before he/she can reach him.

    Trivia

The name "Noob Saibot" comes from "Boon Tobias," the surnames of Mortal Kombat co-creators Ed Boon and John Tobias spelled backwards.
