Mario must use all of his abilities as well as several new power ups to rescue Princess Peach from the clutches of Bowser Junior in the first Super Mario Bros. game for the DS.
There should be no time limit in side-scrolling Mario games. Usually it doesn't matter because there is plenty of time to finish the level, but after I beat the game sometimes I try to find star coins or warp exits, or sometimes I just like to play around or hit every brick block in the level to see if they contain anything. I can't do this for long because soon the music speeds up to remind me that time is running out.
The timer does serve one useful purpose: If you grab the flag pole when the last two digits in the timer are the same (e.g. 99 or 88) you get different rewards. However, this can be fixed by having the timer count upwards instead of to zero.
