The Theft of a Space Opera
My most beloved game niche is the Sci-Fi RPG, I just can’t get enough of KOTOR and System Shock, this game is more focused on being a shooter, but it still falls in nicely with that company. That said, if you try to play the game, as a shooter, then you will so totally get your ass reamed out by the crappy AI, because, well that’s the way they balanced things out.
I loved the story elements to the game, its like living an epic space action movie, you are the center of the story and your actions really do drive where the narrative goes next. To a limit, you still have to fight the mechanical Saren at the end no matter what you do, but to give a ‘sample…
My first playthough had me taking the moral high ground and being the good guy, I had to duke it out with Saren and then he came back as his mechanical incarnation, the second time through I was a renegade, doing what I wanted and not putting up with any shit, and I convinced Saren to shoot himself in the head, thereby skipping the first half of that boss battle.
If you are looking for a good game, this is great, well worth spending some money on to own. I would skip the DLC and the side missions, exploring the galaxy on a bunch of planets that don’t even have trees is some of the most boring shit I’ve ever found in a game, but hey, who knows, some of you might have liked how they added that junk in to boost the ‘gameplay hours’ tagline… nah ‘prolly not.
