Overview
Legend of Valkyrie, or Valkyrie no Densetsu, is a top-down action-adventure game featuring Namco's Valkyrie character who was first introduced in the 1986 Famicom game Valkyrie no Bouken: Toki no Kagi Densetsu. Valkyrie is once again pressed into service by her heavenly bosses to recover the Golden Seed from the villain Kamooz. She is joined by her stalwart reptile companion Sandra (also translated as Xandra or Whirlo, who would later be the hero of a SNES spin-off) who can be controlled by a second player.
First released in the Arcade on Namco's "Namco System 2" hardware in 1989, the game was ported to the PC Engine the following year with a few missing features including the co-op mode. It remained a Japan exclusive until 1997, where it was translated into English for the first time with a handful of other Namco Arcade games for the PS1 compilation Namco Museum Volume 5. The PC Engine version would later be added to the Japanese Wii's Virtual Console in 2008, with the Arcade version following it in 2009.
