A flawerd Gem but a Gem nonetheless
Indigo Prophecy is the second game by Qantic Dream and could be described as the natural progression of the point and click adventure game.
The game follows the story of a man named Lucas Cane who suddenly loses control of his own body and murders someone in a diner, after narrowly escaping a police officer at the diner the game switches your control over to two detectives(Carla Valenti and Tyler Miles) who are investigating the murder in the diner. The key to Indigo Prophecy is how flexible the story is. Before you escape the diner you might want to hide the evidence of the murder OR you might want to leave the evidence out to give the detectives an easier time, the way your actions carry over throughout the game truly is unique.
The gameplay in Indigo Prophecy is unique as it can be split into two parts. The first is a real time adventure game where you control a characters and walk around to use objects to advance the story. The second happens during most of the cut-scenes in the came and during cut-scenes you must play mini-games, succeeding or failing at these mini-games affects whether the character succeeds or fails in the cut-scene. The game-play did feature one or two stealth sequences that i did NOT enjoy, as they are the old kind of stealth sequences in which a single mistake fails you.
This interactive movie gameplay can be quite unique and really allows for the scope of the events in the game to be more interactive. These cutscenes can range from epic matrix style fight scenes to observing an autopsy to being interrogated.
The music of the game is quite good and really helps set the feel for the game, it has a unique somber tone to it that really suits the story. The graphics while old at this point still look quite good and the body animation particularly is quite effective with several exceptions(romance scenes).
The story is the key to Indigo Prophecy and this keeps the quality of the game high for most of it although the quality of its story decreases towards the end and this affects the game-play immensely.
Regardless of the issues within the story Indigo Prophecy is a unique game in how it plays and it succeeds on the most part with everything it attempts.
