IG-88 is an assassin droid line in the Star Wars universe. While there are actually 4 different IG-88s, fans usually refer to it as a single entity, 'IG-88". He is a favorite among fans of the Star Wars saga, always trailing on the list of secondary villains in popularity, right after Boba Fett.
IG-88 was an assassin droid line designed by Holowan Laboratories . The IG-88 line was a derivative of the IG-100 MagnaGuard droids used as bodyguards by General Grievous and the IG Lancer Droids used by Durge during the Clone Wars . IG-88 later became one of the galaxy's most infamous bounty hunters .
An IG-88 was called by Darth Vader to hunt down the Millenium Falcon, along with Bossk,4-Lom, Zuckuss, Dengar, and Boba Fett, Fett beating them out and capturing the falcon and Han Solo.
IN THE GAMES
IG-88 later ambushed Fett trying to steal his captive, Solo, but his ship was shot down and it crashed into Ord Mantell. In the game Shadows of the Empire, the player character Dash travels to Ord Mantell's Junkyard, where IG-88 is trying to salvage new ship parts. He learns of Boba Fett's whereabouts from IG-88 and destroys him in a boss fight in the main plant. The goal is to bring IG-88's health down to 0%, which he will then deactivate, make a creaking sound, and collapse. The boss's main weapon is its pulse cannon.
Another IG-88 is featured in Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron as a playable hero, and appears as a boss twice in story mode. The first boss fight occurs on Ord Mantell as Renegade Squadron tries to defend the Millenium Falcon, and the second boss fight is on Sullust, where IG-88 is equipped with a force field, making him invulnerable.
IG-88 is featured in the Lego Star Wars videogames as a playable character.
