    Goat Simulator

Game » consists of 6 releases. Released Apr 01, 2014

In this parody of inaccurate and terribly made "Simulator" games, an indestructible goat wreaks havoc on a vaguely European sandbox world plagued by buggy physics and non-sequiturs.

One hit wonder or new Genre?

Everyone I show this game to loves it so much that they want to play more stupid games like it. I know Goat Simulator was a one month kind of deal that wasn't even supposed to be a game, but what do you all think about more game like this being created either by independent developers or Coffee Stain being coerced into making a follow-up simulator with more levels and quests?

I doubt this will be anything more than a fad.

*cue 5 years from now, when Goat Simcon starts and we have Horse Simulator, Cow Simulator, Deer Simulator, and Alpaca simulator.

Isn't that game just basically Saints Row type mayhem from a Goat's perspective?

I dunno, I'm sure there's already dozens of weird joke games out there, especially on PC.

This isn't something you can massproduce without breaking the charm. I'm calling one hit wonder, with probably a couple copies being developed.

I saw this being mentioned in the commentary during the Quick Look, and I agree with it.
As fun as this game seems (I'm probably going to get it as soon as it goes on a Steam sale), I really hope that it is a one-hit wonder.
I just can't help but feel bad for the indie developers that may spend years on a game, refining it, polishing it down, trying to get the story or gameplay mechanics just right, only for a game that is unabashed about being full of bugs and that was never meant to be released as an actual product surge to the top of Steam's Top Sellers. If some of them are pissed that the average gaming audience just eats this stuff right up, I don't really blame them. Sorry if I seem like a buzzkill =/.
Plus the magic and charm of Goat Simulator is something that can only be caught just once. Can't spread the magic too thin.

I fully expect more than a few clones to pop up, most likely on mobile platforms, maybe 2-D but in the similar vein of "break things playing as animal X".

I love this game because it's a video game that accepts its a fucking video game and runs with it. I am so tired with this medium where you can literally do anything make any rules for the world and do anything and the prevailing notion across games is to capture realism. I already exist in reality. Video games should go more crazy. Why can't my character jump into the sky or run super fast. It's the same notion as people who pick humans in fantasy rpgs. Fuck your extra feat go wild.

That being said I hope there's more of these or rather more exercises in playing with the idea that video games don't need restrictions.

I don't know, when I first saw Goat Simulator I thought it had the same vibe as Octodad. just a manic enjoyable mess. (Octodad turned out to be more than that but yeah.)

Llama Simulator. You all know I'd go there.

I can see the bullshit simulator genre making some ground for a while, but not in any serious way. Goat Simulator is funny and stupid, but I get the feeling the joke will eventually wear out its welcome.

"Hilarious joke that will get run into the ground super quickly" is already a genre.
