    Genome soldiers are genetically enhanced soldiers that exist in the Metal Gear Solid universe. They were created to be the backbone of the FOXHOUND army.

    Background

    The Genome Soldiers are the enemy type encountered most regularly in 1998's Metal Gear Solid. The "genome" part of their moniker refers to the fact that they have all been genetically modified to receive the genes (via injection) of the greatest soldier who ever lived, Big Boss. It is debatable whether this had any actual impact on their capabilities, as they are just as easily outsmarted and defeated as any foot soldier within the Metal Gear franchise. Johnny Sasaki is the only genome soldier who is known to never have received the mandatory injection, and - remarkably - has proven to be the most resilient and capable soldier of the lot over the course of the series.
