Malfurion Stormrage was one of the main disciples of the demigod Cenarius and started the teaching of Druidism to the Night Elves and is arguably the most powerful Druid in all of Warcraft lore. He was reawakened after a ten thousand year slumber by his beloved, Tyrande Whisperwhind, to fight of the second coming of the legion. Malfurion could sense the corruption that the legion had brought back into the world, it was all too familiar to him as he had fought them before his long slumber. He could sense the corruption even in the plane where his mind went when he meditated, the Emerald Dream. He immediately summoned treants to dispatch the Legion's undead minions that were closing in on his den. He then ventured with Tyrande to gather the other groups of druids together to bring down the Legion and the leader of the attack on Azeroth, Archimonde. Using the Horn of Cenarius, Malfurion was able to summon the Ancestral Guardians who defeated Archimonde.
Afterwards, detailed in the Stormrage novel, he was trapped in another state of meditation in the Emerald Dream where he was tortured by the Nightmare Lord. With the help of such characters as Tyrande, King Varian Wrynn, Broll Bearmantle, Ysera and Alexstrasza, he was brought back to the physical realm and the Nightmare Lord was stopped from corrupting the world. Reunited again, Tyrande and Malfurion were finally formally married.
During the events of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Malfurion makes his first formal World of Warcraft appearance, leading his army in an assault against the elementals of Mount Hyjal and against Queen Azshara and the Naga in Darkshore.
