Which Sci Fi Show should I watch First?
With Amazon Prime on PS3, I realized the other day that the entire x-files series is on it and decided to watch them until I get sick of them (hopefully that won't happen) But I got 3 episodes in and haven't been able to continue to watch for the past few days. Then I remembered I want to watch Twin Peaks to see what that is like. I have every X-Files episode at the tip of my fingers but I have 200 or more to go (I think). Twin Peaks is only 30 episodes and is ranked one of the greatest TV shows of all time (would have to buy them though...)
So which should I watch first GB community?
Twin peaks is on Netflix, I couldn't get into it when it was on TV, it's probably much better if you can sit down and watch it all at once but it is definitely an acquired taste.
X Files is really hit or miss, some episodes are the greatest thing ever but a lot of it sucks, especially in the later seasons when they started focusing on the conspiracy crap.
The X-Files through season 7 including the first movie then jump to the finale. The first four seasons are great, but after that it gets a bit off under the weight of its own confused mythology. Still, it's damned good when it's good. Check out "War of the Coprophages", my personal favorite from season 3 for a creepy show with some laughs.
TP is very short and can be done in a weekend while X-Files will take months of work to get through. I gave up a few episodes into the second season of TP, but the first one had some really great moments.
I havent watched Twin Peaks myself but I went for it purely out of time consuming. X Files goes on for a long time and I recently just watched series one and found that to be a slog.
Honestly, I haven't yet watched Twin Peaks. The idea seems interesting but it just hasn't been something I had to see. X-Files called out to me screaming my name maybe 6 years ago. You won't regret it.
You might not have a very high opinion of Maulder after watching Twin Peaks so i'd say X-Files but they're both great.

The last couple seasons were a chore to get through so just skip to the end after the movie to avoid fatigue.
Twin Peaks because it's shorter. When you watch the X-files I would stop around season 5 goes down hill around then
Huh... Too bad I never actively watched either of those shows, I'm not even sure if I've seen one episode of Twin Peaks. I do want you to know one thing though, here in WA, there really is no Twin Peaks, it's filmed here though. Damn, now I really have to watch the show. Anyways, I was hoping you'd have Star Trek: The Next Generation up there as a choice, but since you don't, I didn't choose.
The X-Files, because sometimes it's so crazy you have to laugh. Other good Sci Fi shows would be Stargate Atlantis or Firefly
Heard nothing but good things about Twin peaks, and although XFiles is highly respected, a lot of people agree it hasn't aged as well as they once thought.
I voted Twin Peaks. I should warn you though, I found the first episode almost unbearable. But the show gets so good.
2 months ago I was bedridden for a week with Pneumonia and ended up watching all of Twin Peaks and the first season of X-Files over that time. X-Files holds up better but Twin Peaks has more interesting characters. I say watch them both. Best sick week of my life.
Start with Twin Peaks and try and stick with it. It's a slow burn that gets crazy at some points ( re: Jean Jacket Man and that ridiculous octogenarian bellhop ) but truly worth your time.
Now grab yourself a hot coffee and a slice of damn fine pie and enjoy.

Twin Peaks is the most godawful thing I've ever tried to watch, but any time I've ever tried to say that, people just respond with "You're watching it incorrectly". From what I've gathered, correctly must be while high on some substance. Keep this in mind.
I vote X-files.
You are not watching it incorrectly. You just don't get it. I have a feeling this theme is something that you go through for anything made by David Lynch, right?

Twin Peaks. It's incredible. X-Files does not hold up very well.
Twin Peaks... Season 1 only though. The X-Files is great for seasons like 1-4... then 4 and 5 are not the worst, but the last few seasons is where it really falls off with Mulder leaving, and not having the whole smoking man mystery stuff going on.
Twin Peaks is only two seasons so just watch that first and then move to X-Files. Also it will make you watch The X-Files differently after watching Twin Peaks...
I started watching Twin Peaks for the first time last summer and thought the first season was a lot of fun. The second season, however, expands upon the roles of some characters with storylines that are simply terrible. It's still alright up until the episode where the killer is revealed, but then it really falls apart. The low point seems to be around episode 15. That's where my summer watch ended. I got around to finishing it in February and the show does pick up a bit at the end, especially if you into weird shit, though the conclusion isn't really a conclusion so be warned.
I've never seen more than a few episodes of X-files.
I say give Twin Peaks a chance first, since it's shorter, and stop after the killer is revealed if you want. You won't be missing out on much other than a shit ton of weirdness.
