hey all, just a couple notes about the chart:

1. it's not complete. For example, companies like Nintendo weren't included because they never really merged with / split from any other companies. They've made some acquisitions over the years - and we're hoping to address those type of issues in a future revision of the chart.

2. Consider this one version 1.0. We're going to make changes, and additions to the chart as time goes on, and re-release it periodically. We're hoping to replace the names w/ company logos, as well as flesh the chart out a bit with some of the devs we didn't add this time around. Consider it a work in progress.

I am not going to read all of that but I am going to rely on you when you say that is impressive. Sure looks it.

This chart is mind blowing...I think my mind may actually blow if I tried to read every single inch of it.

That is one fucking awesome chart and if your the sort of person who likes to know these things about the industry, abit like myself, then its even better. Seriously great find mate, if we're gonna use some video game terminology about this then that is what I call "epic level raid loot" for sure.

Weird. When I click it, it opens like every other image at Giant Bomb. That is to say, it pops up over the current page with an "x" in the top-left corner."

Frankie and a couple of guys at bungie as well as Ryan Payton from Kojima Productions left for Wingnut

Mistwalker could be a joint between Microsoft and Square Enix and Feelplus a neck off of MS connected to mistwalker

GB really should add additional captchas and other hurdles before users (that is to say bots) can necro ancient threads.

Also, it bugs me more than it should that Activision is at the top of this chart and not Atari.

@paulwgraham: Quick correction. The site does use captchas for log-in and account creation. However, with the advent of ChatGPT, bots have more tools than ever before to get past traditional barriers.

@zombiepie: I know about the initial captchas but I'm suggesting that there are clearly unusual actions (such as necroing a 14 year old thread) where it might be beneficial to add additional friction. Yes bots are getting better at solving captchas but they are far from perfect at it. Also they are still super bad at math so it might be sufficient to simply add a question like: “Whats 22 + 47?”

@paulwgraham: We are going to have to agree to disagree. Past attempts to use math problems as a check went pretty poorly. Also math problems can pose accessibility issues. All captchas are awful, but it's often about picking the one that is the least awful.
