Do games that run on vista/xp can run on Windows 7 too?

Like the topic says I want to buy a game that runs on vista or xp, but can it still work in my Windows 7?

Depends on the game.

Yes, in most cases it should work without a problem, but some less supported games might need a bit of tinkering to run properly.

Always wondered if Halo 2 (Vista Exclusive) could run on Windows 7.

From what I recall, it doesn't take that much work to actually get it up and running on Windows XP and DirectX 9 (making it "excusively" work with 10 was the only justification they had in having it be Vista-only on the first place), so I imagine the same would be true in 7's case as well.

Mostly older games that need messing with - and if it lists vista comparability then it can't be that old.

I didn't have to do any edits and I beat it over the weekend.

To the OP: Yeah, almost every game that ran on XP and Vista will run on 7. Almost. Some exist that won't, at least not in their vanilla form.

Vista and 7 a virtually the same operating system underneath (7 is just a lot leaner and less busted), so yes it will be fine.

Just tried it, yep it works.

Just like with any OS revision, some things are compatible, some are deprecated, and some features just no longer work. You need to tell us about what game specifically or do a Google search to figure this out because in general terms it will work but it may not.
