Awesome Game
The original F.E.A.R was one of the most brilliant shooters ever produced. The AI was amazing. True, the environments were a bit tedious --- corridor-mania was running WILD! --- but the game was one of the single most fun titles out there. Then, Monolith and their publisher had a bit of a falling out. F.E.A.R stopped being controlled by Monolith, so they created Project Origin.
Then, F.E.A.R reverted back to Monolith and the name was placed back where it belongs.
Monolith has become the master of atmospheric first-person perspective titles. Condemned was and is amazing and F.E.A.R while not as atmospheric, is markedly more visceral.
In F.E.A.R. you are a member of a branch of the military in charge of dealing with supernatural situations. In the original game, you're dealing with a young girl named Alma who, kind of, causes a nuclear blast to go off when the game ends. Truly sad stuff.
In this game, you're Becket and you are trying to capture the head of a major corporation that is trying to create replicas using the medically-comotose Alma. In the middle of the opening mission, the nuke goes off. So, yes, you're working the same time frame as the original game --- except Alma is now, roughly, 8 years older.
The weaponry is still amazing. The AI is still phenomenal. The environments, honestly, aren't a lot better. They do have open areas, but they are linear as all hell. It is still an absolutely amazing game. You also get to work inside of a giant mech suit for a few missions, which is a great deal of fun.
The game has one of the most disturbing finishes of all time --- I won't discuss it here --- but this game is an absolute must-buy. Not the greatest shooter on the market, but it's got a good chance of being one until the next CoD hits --- and the AI is almost definitely going to be better.
