Dreamcast

The Dreamcast is the fifth and final console developed by Sega and the first of the sixth-generation of consoles to release. As the first 128-bit system, it was the first to offer truly arcade-quality 3D graphics. It is famous for being the first console to include worldwide online capability, its game library, and its unexpectedly short life span.
So we all forgot a certain something turned 11 recently?
Hint: It played these awesome looking games:
Old ass games that can probably now run on your fancy telephone! Did you give your old Dreamcast some love recently for it's 11th birthday?
" September turned 11 today. Never forget. "September has been around much longer than 11 years =/
i never forgot... i gave mine a hug and even mentioned it in the bllsl tested chat... no one cared lol
I don't understand the cause of the recent surge of nostalgia for the Dreamcast. Anyone who played the system when it came out knew it for what it was: a flop. A handful of great titles, some PS1 ports with better graphics, and online play that came too early and without a killer app. If it wasn't for Soul Calibur my DC would have left my possession long ago.
I don't think they are, I mean the thread says recently after all. I was a bit confused for a second too." Wait, why is everybody saying that today is the Dreamcast's birthday? What happened to 9/9/99? "
Technically the Dreamcast is almost 12 years old though, it came out in November over in Japan!
Edit: Perfect time to fire up some Shenmue on mine.
True, but since 11/27/98 isn't as cool as 9/9/99, it doesn't count :P.
I've tried playing Dreamcast games, but I need a more powerful computer.

It flopped because of Sega's mismanagement, PS2 hype, lack of a DVD drive, no EA and Squaresoft support. The software library was excellent if you had a specific taste. Online play's killer app was Phantasy Star Online, btw.
" I haven't ever owned a Dreamcast but I still remembered it's 11th birthday. "NOOOO you said it! keep it to yourself!
Man, the Dreamcast...I fixed mine ages ago, still have it hooked up and everything. Lots of love for Chu Chu Rocket and Shenmue.
BRB, Ooga Booga.
You know about the Dreamcast 10-year anniversary Quick Looks they did last year, right?
They're on pg. 11 of the QL's, if you're interested.
I bought a Dreamcast recently but I'm having a really hard time finding any games that aren't rediculosuly expensive. Typing of the Dead is going for £58 on Amazon, and that's what, $90? I just want to play some games on it.

Piracy is bad though, mkay.
Just sayin'.
It seems like you can find a bunch of Dreamcast games on that site that is a bay of sorts for people with eyepatches and peg legs. I got lucky and had some games come with the Dreamcast I bought. Then I just bought some selected others. Racing games seem to be fairly cheap.
Happy birthday dreamcast I never knew ye but I heard you were fun, it's kind of sad I know a lot about games\consoles from the 80s and early 90s but I don't know anything about newer consoles like dreamcast ps1 xbox N64 etc. I was behind the times I played NES since 2000 :D cause Romania was behind the times and nowhere to buy new consoles from heck I never knew any other consoles existed until I got internet in 2006 :D. Yes I got internet in 2006 isn't that crazy?
Damn you OP! I've been avoiding the thought of my Dreamcast as I've wanted to drag my attic out and set up 'the old girl!' And now I may have just found the excuse! And yeah, the Dreamcast wasn't the greatest console but I still remember a lot of fun times with Chu Chu four player!
I did get Wacky Races with my Dreamcast... but it's not very good. It's kind of like Cel Damage for the Gamecube. Even looks about the same. I want some Sonic Adventure and Jet Set Radio! and Shenmue (shenmue is probbably the most expensive of them all from what I've seen).
" Happy Birthday, average mental age of the Giant Bomb community! "I like to think that some of the more mature members just don't post that much ;P but I know what you mean.

" Happy birthday Final Fantasy VIII! "You are also awesome. :)
I walked around in Shenmue a bit, had a coffee from a Bell Wood vending machine, pet the cat, beat up some thugs, and checked on my girl Nozomi. Good times.
