Here is a good piece from Cory Doctorow. It's funny in the context of two huge companies arguing over consumer benefit over App Store margins and Fortnite. I wish others would think about it. Shamelessly I'm going to block quote 4 of these paragraphs, but recommend reading the entire piece. "Then came a fabulist named Robert Bork, a former solicitor general who Reagan appointed to the powerful...

This will probably be the last of these quintet round-ups. Truth be told, I'm not the greatest judge of how "substantial" any of these Itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality Indie games might be: I've been going from my own impressions of the screenshots and trailers on their respective Itch/Steam pages, and whether or not they have any data on How Long to Beat (if not, good sign they'r...

Welcome to “Gaming Memories,” a blog series where I reminisce about my favorite video games . I will slowly but surely get to every game on the list, and speak to why each holds a special place in my heart. That not only means I’ll talk about why I think each is a great game that speaks to my tastes, but also where and how it affected me in a larger context. I hope you enjoy, and thanks for rea...

Night in the Woods is one of those known quantities I'll sometimes work into this feature, like I'm spackling over a conspicuous gap in my own playing history than introducing something fairly obscure to what I'm hoping is a receptive audience of Indie-lovers. The brainchild of animator/illustrator Scott Benson and helped into video game reality by someone we probably don't need to name here, N...

Content Warning: I'm going to be talking about the 2018 Spider-Man game in an explicitly political context. A lot of points here were made back in 2018 by more talented writers than I, but I just finished the game, and it hit very differently in 2020. If political stuff in games isn't your bag, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Oh, also, spoiler warning. Lukewarm takes in 3... 2... 1... I just played throu...

It's that time of the year again, give or take a month to get a special COVID-enforced online-only version up and running: the Summer Games Done Quick charity livestream event! This is the biannual (that's twice in one year, not once in two years) week-long marathon event that the prolific speedrunning communities of Twitch and Speedrun.com host to celebrate completing games in ways they were o...

Another week of Indies, another occasion where I rushed to fill a void left by a game that was in no way optimized for weaker systems. Sorry to keep banging that drum, but it's astonishing that most Indies aren't looking any better but continue to require more and more horsepower to run with a framerate in the double digits. Not that it's a problem for this week's game, Forever Lost: Episode 1...

My summer car is a 1978 Thunderbird Diamond Jubilee. The car has a Quadrophonic 8 stereo in it, but it will play normal 8-tracks just fine as well. The speakers sound like a Zellers intercom system though. In an effort to drive the car more so that the seals don't dry out and leak on my driveway, I started recording the Bombcast to blank 8-track tapes. For recording the Bombcast to tape, I hook...

As someone who has a PS4 which I got in 2014 and a Xbox One which I got in 2015, I am in no rush to jump to the PS5 and Xbox Series X this year. Reason being is I am not really interested in jumping to the next generation of consoles just yet. I see the PS4 as still having life left in it and I haven't even played all of the exclusives on PS4 yet. I am not bored of the system just yet and have...

After seeing the quick look for Fall Guys last week, I picked it up -- and I have to say, it's been fantastic so far. In short, it is exactly what it appears to be, so if you haven't liked what you've seen, then it's probably not worth it for you to get. By that same token, however, if you have liked what you've seen, you'll probably enjoy it for at least a weekend. For those of you who've been...

Hoo boy, have I not looked at this page in quite some time. There are a lot of things between 2010 and now that I would like to delete from this site forever. Oh well I suppose... I'm stuck having to live with it. The best I can say is that there were about 9ish years of severe depression and anxiety fueling that content. Let's uhm... just do our best to ignore that and move on I suppose.

Preamble Remember when the same team behind Cardcaptor Sakura made a Final Fantasy OVA? So, anime, it's a thing. It exists, and it cannot "un-exist." Some people love it, but most people love to hate it. Before we talk about the wild and wacky adventures of Prettz and Linaly, we first need to have a bit of a history lesson on anime. The anime industry is a subject in and of itself, with practic...

It's been almost two weeks, let's talk about explormers again.
