With the addition of stupid ideas such as trafic checking, the game changed from fast paced racing with big crashes to focusing on the crashes and leaving the racing to pretty much second place. Similarly, the changes to the crash modes and multiplayer game types made it clear that the games focus was on the crashes and explosions, rather than the racing. Also, on a personal level, I thought the music was absolutely terrible and definitely the game where it became obvious that the soundtrack was put together by a marketing team rather than the songs being picked to fit with the game.
Burnout Revenge
Game » consists of 9 releases. Released Sep 13, 2005
The fourth installment of the Burnout series of high-octane street racing games, focusing more on aggressive racing with new forms of car combat, including the ability to ram same-way traffic into other racers.
The worst in the series?
Paradise isn't my thing. Free roaming in a car just doesn't do it for me. I do get why other people like it though.
I like Revenge because its strait up carnage. The achievements are an absolute joke though. Far too hard.
"I thought it was the best then 3 was second.Exactly, I dont know wtf all these people have to complain about.
"
Honestly the best Burnout for me was Burnout 3: Takedown.
Me and my friends used to have so much fun playing party crash. (Still do sometimes.)
Burnout Revenge kind of lost what made takedown so fun, and I just hate Burnout: Paradise City. They should've just called it Burnout: Need for Speed.
I've not played Paradise, but of the other versions I feel that the traffic checking made Revenge the worst. It just made you lose the feeling of being able to crash at any time on either side of the road. Takedown is my personal fave.
"The achievements are an absolute joke though. Far too hard.Hardly. I have all of them but the signature takedowns (always sucked at them) one. You just have to grind and give it more than a couple tries. :)
"
My list of the Burnout series:
1) Burnout 2: Point of Impact
2) Burnout Paradise
3) Burnout 3: Takedown
4) Burnout Revenge
5) Burnout
There's just something about the Burnout franchise that gets to me. I've sunk more than 150 hours into Paradise, and Revenge feels like its arcade counterpart. I actually like the Traffic Attack events, if you get enough of a combo going, it starts to feel like some kind of crazy pinball game. Love it.
I haven't played them all to call it the worst, but man... one thing that killed me... Burnout 3 is notorious for having like the worst licensed soundtrack ever. So what does EA do for the next game? Make a worse soundtrack. Good job, EA. Technically, I'd say the soundtrack is slightly better overall, except it doesn't have a single song that I found to be worth listening to. Therefore, I prefer Burnout 3's, because then I could at least just turn off all the bad ones and listen to the couple good ones over and over.
I really liked Revenge, though not as much as Takedown. But yeah, the soundtrack was terrible, even worse than Takedown's.
I thought the first Burnout was easily the weakest, though I didn't enjoy the Paradise demo too much. I'm looking to check it out at a budget price eventually
It's such a hard call for me. I hated the open-endedness of Paradise (trying to read and navigate by street signs with an SDTV didn't help matters), yet it's hard to hate on a game that has released so much extra (and free) content after its release. I still think Takedown is the highlight of the series, although Revenge is pretty good.
