Fifteen Bucks Worth of Awesome
When you're low on cash and out of a job, it's kind of hard to summon the willpower to buy a video game. You also have to be cautious with your purchase because it might be the only thing you'll be playing for a while, so you have to pick something that will be worth what's the money you can spend on games. Battlefield 1943 is definitely worth the 1200 Microsoft Points ($15).
Some may complain about it only being multiplayer game, but it is a really good multiplayer game. The ground combat is solid and chaotic--the good (flaming jeeps flipping over your head) chaotic. On the ground you get your choice of choosing between "Rifleman," "Infantry," and "Scout" classes to play as.
The "Air Superiority" mode is good as well; it's a fun air plane only territory mode. Two teams spawn on carrier ships placed on opposite sides of the map where they can jump into a plane and take off to attack the other team.
There are a few problems with this game. There are only four maps and one of them is only available in "Air Superiority." This is understandable because the game is only $15, but this might still be enough to turn some potential buyers away from the game. Another problem is the lag in some matches. You may be able to get some kills even if everyone is "teleporting" all over the map, but it won't be easy. If you're flying a plane and the match you're in is laggy sometimes it will seem that the palm trees and mountains are jumping up to smack you out of the sky.
By no means is this game perfect, but the positive elements certainly outweigh the negative. If you really enjoy good first-person shooters, and you don't mind the few issues, Battlefield 1943 is absolutely worth your time and money.
