Poll Sooooo....final boss predictions, anyone? (109 votes)

Black Mask (the supposed Big Bad-not much of a good fighter though) 21%
Bane (1 of the 8 assassins-physically imposing with brains to boot) 6%
Deathstroke (1 of the 8 assassins-the CG trailer already shows he can match Batman) 12%
    Deadshot (1 of the 8 assassins-already done in City as a mini-boss encounter) 2%
    Joker (unaffiliated party?) 28%
Azrael (it's a prequel to City/Asylum but you never know, would make for quite the showdown) 3%
Ra's Al Ghul (already a boss in City, but so were Joker and Bane in Asylum) 7%
Red Hood (would need to be voiced by Jensen Ackles if you ask me) 2%
Lady Shiva (now we're getting into less familiar/unlikely territory) 0%
Gorilla Grodd (because why the fuck not) 5%
Brainwashed Supes (not sure how Black Mask would do it but it would lead nicely into a Silver Age Rocksteady game) 0%
Other (There might be a DC character called Other considering there's thousands of 'em, but you know what I mean) Lemme know in the comments! 12%
No final boss (being done a lot these days, i.e. Mass Effect 3 and Bioshock Infinite, but those games don't really lend themselves to boss fights to well) 2%

Playing through Asylum again recently and reflecting back on City made me remember that this series hasn't exactly had the best track record with final bosses. Hulk-Joker as some corners of the fandom would have him known was an abysmal final encounter to an otherwise stellar game. I mean, don't get me wrong, the other bosses in Asylum were nothing to write home about, except maybe that tense Killer Croc "fight" and the Scarecrow sections, though they avoid head-on confrontation with the boss character.

City improved the boss sections in my opinion, with notable standouts being Mr. Freeze and Ra's Al Ghul. The final boss, Clayface, was about as out of left field as that game could get, but I personally found the fight itself disappointing when pitted against the aforementioned examples. Perhaps Warner Bros. Montreal can one-up Rocksteady and make a memorable final fight. Question is: who would be in the spotlight this time? Now, because the DCU has A LOT of characters, listing a sufficient list would be nigh-impossible, so I've chosen examples that I think are possible, some being more realistic than others.

I WANT it to be Red Hood, or something crazy like a brainwashed Superman. I doubt it'll be anything that cool. But the way they're keeping a lot of characters close to their chest and introducing people who havnt been in Arkham before, makes me home they're saving something special.

I doubt it would be Red Hood(aka Jason Todd). I don't think he's even met Dick Grayson yet.

If it's Joker I will beat myself in the face. It would be the third game in a row and the most obvious/boring choice. I hope it's either a pretty big surprise, like a good twist at some point, or just have it be Black Mask.

Edit: Ok nevermind, Arkham City didn't have Joker as a final boss. WHATEVER! My point still stands.

Could be true. Have they mentioned how many years before the other two this one takes place? Cause by City, Tim Drake is Robin, and in comic chronology he was the 3rd person to hold that mantle. Meaning if they follow a similar pattern with the Arkhamverse, the whole Death of the Family arc may have happened already. Batman still looks plenty gruff to not be young at a point where he would've had no allies. I believe Joker makes an off-hand comment about that storyline in Asylum or City as well.

They said it's his second year as Batman, there's no Robin and he's not even working with Jim Gordon yet. Said it in a game Informer Q&A.

@the_ruiner: That probably rules out any Justice League partners coming over as well. Damn shame. Although there was that Queen Industries container in the CG reveal.

I could totally see them going with something safe and relatively predictable like Joker. I hope I'm wrong, I want to believe that Joker isn't even an important character in the game as I'm kind of sick of him at this point, and the lack of original voice casting doesn't help. But yeah, for all the touting they did with AC having a new cast of enemies to meet, it was still mostly Joker.

    1. Joker

    2. Scarecrow

    3. Bane

    4. Some other modern Batman movie villain

Should be Deathstroke, Joker's been done twice already and Black Mask isn't really a skilled figher. Deathstroke is by far the most dangerous of any of the villains shown off so far and defeating him in combat would be a great way to show Batman becoming the badass he is in the earlier(or later I guess) games.

If Gorilla Grod was the final boss in this game I would flip my shit. That'd be the most left field you could get, and it would be incredible.

Anywhoo, I'm not super invested in the real nitty gritty of Batman (or any comic characters really), so I couldn't begin to start throwing out guesses or speculation. We don't even know who all of the 9 assassins are yet... do we? I'm hoping it'll be a nice surprise and most especially that, like everyone else will agree I'm sure, it doesn't devolve into yet another scheme involving The Joker.

You know, I'd love to see the Court of Owls or the Red Hood. Both have been great in the New 52 version of Batman but I'm guessing neither would be seen as having enough mass market appeal and in the case of the Owls, they probably didn't even exist when the game went into production.

Deathstroke. If they hew close to the comics, he's essentially Evil Batman.

The Joker because he is the Joker and this is an Arkham game.

The thing is that I'm one of those annoying dudes who have absolutely no problem with it because I like the character so much.

The only answer I will accept is fighting The Joker to Jesper Kyd's baller The Adventures of Batman and Robin Genesis soundtrack.

Whoever it is, I hope it's as a big of a surprise as Clayface!

Well, since no one has dropped his name yet, why not repeat the 'they don't think it's gotten old but it sure as hell has'........

    ...Evil Superman.
