    Overview

    The Assassin Brotherhood of the Assassin's Creed franchise is based on the historical Islamic Assassins ("Hashashin", from which the term "assassin" is derived) of Persia and Syria, but extended significantly with fictional elements. In the Assassin's Creed series, their main enemy is the Knights Templar.

    The protagonists of the Assassin's Creed series are usually brought into the Brotherhood at some point in the game. In some cases, they are also able to recruit others.
