Sony Online Entertainment admins for The Matrix Online have announced that the game will be shutting down. The MMO originally launched in March of 2005, and will be closing down on July 31 of this year.

In a short set of questions and answers posted to the game's official boards, the game's community manager posted that there will be some sort of climactic final event that sounds like it could provide some sort of closure for the remaining player base.
