You've been waiting years for it, and now the day is here: Final Fantasy VII is available on the PlayStation 3. Happy? What's that? You wanted a remake? Oh, sorry. Keep waiting!
In all seriousness, Square Enix has dropped Final Fantasy VII International--the improved version of the game that came out in Japan some time after the U.S. release--as a download on the Japanese version of the PlayStation Network. The game will run you around $15, if you live in Japan or feel like setting up a Japanese account in another territory.
Not the shiny new remake Square teased a few years ago, but perhaps a (tiny) step closer? We shall see. News and image shamelessly borrowed from Kotaku.
