Maybe I am an idiot but this year Mr. Cory Ledesma keeps talking about core gameplay. Maybe this could be the proper reboot for the franchise and make the series fun to play again

I doubt it. The biggest addition is something that was in most other wrestling games last decade.

Everything else looks like the same old rehashed Smackdown. Same engine, same graphics, same CAW mode, same features, etc.. The developers don't seem to understand what the fans actually want from the games, and don't care.

There's not gonna be a decent wrestler until we get No Mercy 2.

I played it at WWE Summerslam Fan Axxess.

A lot of the animations do seem a lot smoother, but the game controls and feels the same way. My friend and I had a Zack Ryder vs the Miz match and I found out there is new commentary, but sadly it is just Cole yelling about the Miz. The Breaking Point submission mechanic doesn't seem any different except for the giant obnoxious graphic that comes up.

From my 10 minutes it seemed like just another coat of paint.

The year that they make a game that is as fun as WWF No Mercy/WrestleMania 2000?  Maybe.  They did mention a new grappling system that is centered on the A button which is kinda like what those games were doing.  So here is hoping that they focus on making the game fun instead of just trying to make it play like a match.  If ya know what I mean.  Grapple, push another button and the move is performed, easy.

The new trailer they just put out looks promising. The animations look super smooth. Yeah I'm excited and I'm not one bit ashamed of that!

They seem to be trying this year. We'll see when it comes out.

@emergency: I hope it's not limited to certain submissions only. You know like you can crawl in an Ankle Lock but not a Sleeper hold. I hope they expand on that.

I imagine that their would be some you can't crawl from.

@emergency: True but what if you were in a sleeper hold on the ground and you were close to the ropes, you should be able to try to turn and get your leg under the rope or touch it right?

Same with pins, you should be able to do that or grab the rope. It happens all the time.

I guess, sleepers would normally be performed away from ropes and the person would power out eventually rather than reaching the ropes though.

How about for pins right, say you're being pinned close to the ropes, in the kickout meter, there should be a goal that says "rope" alongside the regular "kickout". If you're successful, there would be a quick cut to the person's hand grabbing the rope or the person's foot being put on the rope for the 2 count or even the immediate rope break.

@Agent47: No, this seems exactly the same as past years. They hype up one or two massive improvements, they get everyone excited and it's inevitably a crushing disappointment. The games have literally been getting worse each year since 2006.

The fact they're still using an engine from a PSOne game is embarrassing and all the big enhancements are things we had in other wrestling games 10 years ago.

They went back to the old grapple system. I'm interested now.

buut seriously there hasnt been a really good games since here comes the pain or maybe even shut your mouth. ive given them a lot of cahnges and have been dispointed over and over the last 5 years. i havent given up on the series but i wont be buying another smackdown game until they get there shit together.

I haven't watched wrestling for a few years now, but the main problem I had with the games was that they could never replicate what everyone saw on TV.  There are way too many pre-determined variables that go into every match and segment for a game that is updated annually to keep things fresh.  It's not a sport; it's entertainment.  Entertainment is a lot harder to translate.
