The Nintendo Wii is a home video game console released on November 19, 2006. The Wii's main selling point was the innovative use of motion controls that its signature Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers allowed for. It became the best selling home console of its respective generation of hardware.

I've been toying around with the idea of getting a Wii just so I can play my gamecube games and pick up some Wii classics. I'm planning on getting a refurbished one with motion plus since they seem relatively cheap. Hell, recommend me some gamecube gems.

I already played some Wii games like Twilight Princess, No More Heroes 1&2, and the Galaxy games. Anything I missed?

Got that in a box somewhere. Definitely one of the best racers I've played.

Every Wii recommendation thread that pops up I mention Little King's Story. It really is an underplayed masterpiece. It's like Pikmin with cool boss fights, town building and a weirdly dark and deep story that doesn't reveal itself right away.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is the best entry in the series since 3.

I've written about the Wii's great hidden library here and here before. Just read the titles in the headers if you don't care about the further elaboration. I'd recommend The Last Story and Kirby's Epic Yarn too.

There's an equally high amount of great, largely underrated stuff for the GameCube too. The Metroid Primes, Wind Waker and the Pikmins are fairly obvious, but there's also Skies of Arcadia Legends, Chibi Robo, Baten Kaitos, Eternal Darkness, Tales of Symphonia and, perhaps the best game for the system, Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door.

I made a list! And made a forum thread about it too, to get input on a master list for my own dive-in of the Wii which resulted in a communally agreed upon awesome pile of games to dive into:

Go get yourself some Trauma Team!! Its not for everyone, but I thought it was some of the best crazy anime bullshit I'd seen in years. There's a good Quick Look up, but they only scratched the surface of that game.

I've got my whole list here: http://www.giantbomb.com/profile/l33t_haxor/lists/great-goddamn-wii-games/86467/

Special mention to Metroid Prime 3 which is probably my favorite Wii game. Be sure to mess with the control options, the default controls are garbage.

Wario Ware is short, but if you can find it for cheap you'll have a blast. Probably my favorite use of motion controls ever.

Finally DKC Returns was sooo much better than I thought it would be, even with the bullshit waggle controls.

Since you've played the Mario Galaxy games and Twilight Princess (which would also make this list)-

    • Okami
    • Kirby's Epic Yarn
    • Skyward Sword
    • Smash Bros Brawl
    • Mario Kart Wii
    • Super Paper Mario (be aware that this one is not at all like Thousand Year Door or the original in terms of gameplay- it's purely a platformer, no turn-based combat, but it's got really great writing and I thoroughly enjoyed it)
    • Wario Ware: Smooth Moves (more of a party game, but it's probably the best/most fun use of motion controls the Wii has to offer)

    Resident Evil Re... oh wait...

I really liked Rygar for Wii, but metacritic lists it at a 52 average. So yeah, I personally think it was underrated, possibly in part due to the visual quality of the game...

I also think that Metroid Other M is severely underrated, I had more fun with that than the Prime-series.

edit: full disclosure: I haven't played through all of Rygar, so maybe it turns into a complete turd later on, who knows...

I havent finished Rygar either. The game could have used more checkpoints. However the survival mode (which uses motion controls) is really neat and I would probably say the game is worth checking out for that alone.

Is that Metroid collection good? As in do the first two Prime games get ported over well enough?

@l33t_haxor: Any of the Trauma games count? I forgot that there were more than one Wii Trauma game and picked up Second Opinion by accident. It was $3 though.

@l33t_haxor: Second Opinion is a (for lack of a better term) "Director's Cut" of the original game. They added a number of missions, and a second character to play as (the Doctor who does forensics on Trauma Team no less).

I found Second Opinion was pretty good (my first go into the series), and Trauma Team was a good "sequel" for it [Better story and better sense of "OHSHITOHFUCKOHSHIT" when things go wrong].

That said, screw New Blood. That game is made for two player, not single.
