E3 2017: What Is Even Happening in Super Mario Odyssey?

This looks like a lot of fun. I really hope it delivers.

Looks utterly insane, has a lot of the sort of "open" elements from Sunshine and the weird 2D/3D environmental stuff from Galaxy, and a whole new surreal slate of ideas too. Some of the levels/scenarios are giving me an Ape Escape vibe too, so cool.

I've watched the trailer three times now, and I keep winding up in tears. Nintendo has a way of making me feel like a kid again.

The Super Mario Sunshine-level crazy going on in the setting and scenario is awesome, I can't wait.

I like everything about this trailer: The music, the graphical look, the editing, the way Mario jumps and moves. Bring it, Nintendo!

So someone at Nintendo saw Headlander.

This was looking fantastic. The dude was kind of struggling with the controls, but let's hope that's was due to the pressure of playing a live demo.

This and the Mario + Rabbids game are high on my 'to buy-list'.

My only qualm is the strange physics that Mario had when he would jump from atop the skyscrapers to the ground below. It basically looked like he had no weight at all to him. Other than that, I'm super stoked for what looks like an absolutely bonkers game.

@steveurkel: Yeah I felt the same. That some 40min or more of gameplay they showed after trailer looked kind of scary for a main Mario game. Including in the department I'm least worried coming from them, art. I just cannot shake the Sonic similarities when it comes to the city area. The "day of the dead" saturated looks went down much better for me, but even that felt quite uninspired.

Obviously Nintendo has more than earned for me to wait till launch and till the show more. Just what we saw on that live gameplay demo today was quite a bummer. On the positive side they should have possibilities for all kinds of stuff with the new mechanics and I'm sure we saw some very early parts of the game only.

@steveurkel: @tissot: In fairness it looked a lot better when they showed it over on the Gamespot stream.

The hat mechanic looks fun but I'm not really diggin the art style of this game, New Donk City looks so much like something out of Sonic Adventure. Kinda bland looking there is no style to it.

I lost my shit watching this. Now I must hunt down a Switch.

between this and Rabbits mario has gotten really really weird. Very interesting. Glad to see them try new stuff like this but wonder if it will be to far from the roots for people to enjoy it.

Per this trailer I'm not interested at all. I will have to wait and see more before I start gushing over a goofy trailer.

Sorry, Nintendo fans, but like everything Nintendo showed this year, this just looks same-old-same-old to me.
