E3 2016: Xbox One S is Real...Real Small

Wow, it's so... small...

Definitely want ONE

I'll buy one so I can play things I missed like halo and sunset overdrive, but everything that comes out for it afterward I'm playing on pc, so the Xbox 1.5 or whatever doesn't interest me.

4k Bluray, nice. But WTF is HDR Gaming?

IR Blaster?

AND NO CONTROLLER WTF!

This is a slim model of the existing One, or the One with a hardware upgrade?

Looks really nice! Nice enough to get when Project Scorpio is coming... maybe not..

@irishranger: I think it's just a slim model. The hardware upgrade won't be out for a while, and when it releases there will be a much bigger to-do about it.

It's not my thing, but I find hardware porn fascinating.

@irishranger: just the slimmed redesign - I could be wrong but they didn't mention anything about big upgrades in here except 4K video which Jeff commented makes this the cheapest 4K player on the market (not sure if that's all accurate) It is hella sexy though, as I recall how much space the current Xbox takes up on my shelf I want it, but definitely don't need it. $299 is a great price point too

Looks great, but they TOTALLY negated it. They sent it out to die, they literally sent it out to sacrifice itself.

@joe_mccallister: Could the original Xbone do 4k though? With the bluetooth added in ad well, maybe the specs are a little bit higher.

This gen of consoles is starting to get very fuzzy around the edges.

The question is: Why would you ever buy one, with Scorpio coming over the hill? I guess they're pitching this at the non-connected video gamer, rather than the enthusiast crowd.

PS2 and PS3 both served as great DVD and Blu-ray players that were cheaper than what the market had at the time. This to me is doing the same thing. I just looked up 4K blu-ray players and there don't seem to be that many out there and what few do exist, are expensive. This Xbox One S seems to be filling that gap. It also gives them a new box to put on shelves for this Christmas. While many will argue that MS have already put this out to die with the announcement of Project Scorpio, I'd argue that most people that are into console games aren't always the ones that visit gaming news sites and won't even see that news.

@twistedmerc94: I think it could support 4K video in theory but not the discs? I'm honestly having trouble sourcing that because I thought it was touted as 4K capable (4kapable...ha) at launch. Maybe it's just added in 4K bluray support? That seems more likely: Ars states The new Xbox supports 4K video output, including support for 4K Blu-ray discs, and high dynamic range (HDR) imagery.

XBOX's insistence on doing Win10 versions of everything that would otherwise be exclusive has me wondering why I would ever buy their console now. Granted, I'm sure most folks don't have I7s and 970s, but for those of us who do, there's not much point to buying an XBOX.

@gablekevin:Good eye! I didn't catch that the controller was sold separately until I looked at the really small print at the end of the video. That's a bummer.

Also, the HDR functionality looks to be something available if both a game and a TV has it, so not sure about how many titles fit that description.

I will most likely be getting whatever the next Ps4 is but i dont understand all the hate for the next generation of consoles are we all forgetting that by the time the next consoles launch it will be about the same amount of time between the orginal xbox and the xbox 360 launch.

With a giant power brick still... The reason why I own a ps4 because I cannot have the Xbox one power brick dangling down my wall.

@nagafen: The slim Xbox One does not have a power brick.

It probably needed a newer type of HDMI than what is in the current Xbox One.

So are 4k Blurays actually 4k now or is it still that "mastered in 4k" BS Sony was pulling?

@nagafen: Yeah that giant power brick is now built into the slim. Gonna need another reason. ;)

There is only one player on the market and it is $400. And literally only plays blu Rays, so this is an amazing price.

I can't recall ever seeing a console ditch an included controller to hit a price point.

I'm gonna get this.

Can't recall on that one specifically, but the 3DS XL ditched an included charger.

When I heard 199.99 as the rummored price, I was very interrested, like probably would've gotten one if I could within a few months of release. Not paying 299.99.

This still won't bring me back from my PS4. I've permanently un-hooked my Xbone

so does the fact that they're going bluetooth for wireless mean that it'll get a lot easier to make a wireless PS4 controller look like an xbox controller on PC?
