Stumbles in gunplay can't hold back this amazing title

That's right ladies and gentlemen, I have finally topped off the Uncharted trilogy. At least I finished it while it is still a trilogy, I could see a fourth installment being made, but that is neither here nor there. The fact of the matter is Uncharted 3 compounds on the theory that this franchise is the best franchise on the console. You will not find an experience like this on that Microsoft Xbox system that's for sure. Drake's Deception continues the trend of edge of your seat action and storytelling of the highest quality. Even though it falls a bit short of the mark set by Uncharted 2, with technical bumps in your playing experience, this is still a game that no PS3 owner should miss.

Nathane Drake sets off on yet another adventure to find a lost city of "immeasurable wealth." Backed up by his supporting cast from the first two games, along with a new Brit by the name of Charlie, they go bumbling across the globe seeking a secret and chasing after a ruthless new female antagonist, Katherine Marlow. Along with her seemingly endless supply of soldiers, she seeks the city as well but not for the treasure. Yes things might not be as they first appear in this third iteration on that fantastic Uncharted formula.

I could sit here and gush about all the great stuff in this game, but by now you should know what you are getting with the Uncharted series. The more important things are those that detract from your proverbial roller coaster ride. I am speaking of the flaws that plague this game. Most notably the gun fights. After being a real point of frustration in the first Uncharted, Naughty Dog seemed to take to heart the cries from the fans and fine tuned it quite successfully in the second. But for some reason, the progress made in Uncharted 2 is lost in this latest game. The gun fights are once again the most frustrating part of the game and that is a real bummer because there are so many of them.

Specifically the shooting feels a bit off from the last game. I don't really know what it is but having just recently played through it I can tell you with certainty that there is something off about it. Also and more problematic, there are times when you shoot an enemy and the shot does not register and he just keeps going like he didn't just get his face blasted in. I am talking about full on shot gun blasts and head shots not affecting their targets. It is an issue that has been confirmed by other players of the game and it is a real drag on your experience.

With the poor gun fights set aside, only minor technical issues such as camera angles and wall jumping remain and those you will find in just about any game. It is true that the game is not perfect, but it is damn close and these flaws do not come close to breaking what is one of the best gaming experiences you will have. The storytelling remains top notch and the action sequences are as over the top as they have ever been. Frankly I would recommend that every PS3 owner have this trilogy in their collection because it really does stand apart from other video game franchises. Oh and I hear the multiplayer is even better than before if you are into that sort of thing.

      A mixed bag 0

Let me say straight away that Uncharted 2 is my favourite game of all time so Uncharted 3 had a lot to live up to. Reading other reviews of the game, with a general consensus of "more of the same", I was hugely looking forward to this. After just completing it however I have to say that it most certainly isn't Uncharted 2.2, it's more like Uncharted 1.7.Let me start with the good : when Uncharted 3 gets it right nothing else can touch it. The standout moment for me is the cargo plane sequence wh...

The one ring to rule them all. 0

For what it was, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was near perfect in my honest opinion. It bridged a chasm of platforming, shooting, puzzle and some occasional stealth obstacles, all smoothly fitted and handled like a dream (well, some of the stealth stuff was a little kooky). The storyline wasn't particularly deep, but it had style, flair and a great cast of characters. It's completely subjective of course, but many would likely consider Uncharted 2 as one of the greatest games of this current gener...
