Just read a preview for this game and I am a believer. Anyone else interested in this game?
The Order: 1886
Game » consists of 4 releases. Released Feb 20, 2015
A third-person shooter set in a steampunk-themed alternate timeline, with a dash of the supernatural. Developed by Ready at Dawn Studios for the PlayStation 4.
Please Be Good
I too would like this preview link. Aside from the video I saw, I have heard nothing. I am hopeful regardless.
Mind linking to said preview? I've heard next to nothing on this game aside from speculation as to what it actually is. I would love to know more, because basically all I know is it's very, very pretty.
You can find a preview in the newest issue of gameinformer including new screens
- In concept since 2005
- Trailer graphics are what you can expect it to look like in-game
- Everything in the world is rendered with soft body physics
- Metal beams react for example to magnetic forces, bending and shifting in real time
- Incredible attention to detail: Lens flare catches light as you rotate the camera, oil lamps flash independently in an underground scene, light bouncing off every object provides uncanny realism, insane attention to material detail like wood, leather and cloth.
- Clouds and particles of dust float around lamp flames, subtely settling down on the camera lense
- Ready at Dawn spent a lot of time making the weapons unique, giving each personality. Grounded in understandable science but also have behaviors that you wouldn't expect
- Examples of guns: Arc Gun like you saw in the trailer, Combo Gun has two different settings, you can blow enemies back with a non-lethal charge to make space as well as using standard rifle fire, Thermite Rifle can shoot a chemical onto enemies, using secondary fire to shoot flares to light them on fire, frag grenades can be used typically or hoisted onto the environment via spikes
- Around 7th or 8th century, humanity splinters, with many getting 'beastial traits', becoming 'half breeds'
- Thus begins the conflict
- Humanity basically forms a version of the Knights of the Round Table, in this case, The Order to fight off this enemy
- Through a strange turn of events, they discover a substance called "black water", giving them unusually long lives and unique ability to recover from injury
- The Knights continue to age, but at a much, much slower rate which they use to battle for centuries
- It's basically a curse given they continuously see everything around them leave and die off, it's both a salvation and a curse for them
- This leads up to the 19th century and the changes facilitate the unique futuristic Industrial Age you see before you
- You play as Grayson, known as "Sir Galahad" (guy with the porn stache)
- A new threat emerges as parts of society (humans) begin to rebel against the rulership and are disgruntled with the inequality between layers of society
- Battle scenes are chaotic and exciting, with use of cover, somewhat similar to of Gears of War
- "While the focus is on third-person gunplay combat, The Order sometimes pulls back for slower paced moments of investigation and exploration."
- Ready at Dawn took a unique twist to QTEs, sometimes melee attacks occur during gameplay, time slows down and you can rotate your camera and find different things in the environment to give you an edge. These can range from dodging a punch or grabbing an improvised weapon for example
- Focused on a very strong story driven single player now, not willing to talk about any multiplayer
- Interactive cutscenes keep players in control of part of the action (like shooting) while a preset dramatic moment plays out.

What a ridiculous request. You think it's the OP's job to provide context and properly encourage discussion when creating a topic?
I hope it's like a video game version of Van Helsing or Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters
When I first saw this game in E3, I thought it was an excuse to put modern weapons into old London. Looked like it could be incredibly generic.
But I agree with OP, the previews make it seem like they are really pushing story and are trying to use camera effects and distortion effects to make the game "feel dirty." Ever since I played Kane and Lynch Dog Days, I've wanted games to use visual effects to the max to build atmosphere. If Order: 1886 can pull it off, I'll be quite willing to put down some cash for this game.
Ready at Dawn has made a lot of good PSP games, so I bet they can do it.
@ant0ni00: Well, that's totally fair then. Until I get my hands on that magazine (which will probably be in the near future) I will continue my hopes.
@earlessshrimp: @captain_felafel: GAF had a really good thread about the preview along with some screen shots (can't link because the site it down). Its actually the November GI cover. I was excited about the game but from the screenshots make this looks like a steampunk version of Gears of War. The locale is grimy and dirty with tons of ashy particle effects like that game. It could be cool but I also thought that about Fuse at one point and its just ended up being another third person cover based shooter.
@djou: This sounds like it has far more personality than fuse.
Oh shit I totally forgot about this game.
Guess that makes me a non-believer or just terribly forgetful.
Oh well, sure I'll hope that it's good.
Beats hoping it's bad.
I hope it sucks and everyone who buys it instantly regrets their purchase. Honestly, what's with all this "games should be good" bullshit going around? Where's the support for the terrible games? So much discrimination on this site.

Honestly,
I thought that linking to, or even mentioning another site would be a rule violation of some sort. There are many, many forums that are moderated that way and I didn't know if GiantBomb's forums were also moderated this way.
I remember being psyched at the aesthetic of that first trailer, then slightly bummed when everyone pulled out their steampunk Tesla railguns or whatever.
Victorian knights tearing up a demon-infested London is such an unabashedly video gamey premise. But at this point, I'm over being surprised that video games will be video games. An old-timey Gears of War is okay for an early next-gen game, I guess.
Dude is hench! Also, they are saying all the right things to get people excited.
I'm finding it hard to be excited for a cover based third shooter, but everything else about the game seems interesting. And yes I know first person shooters are more frequent these days but I prefer playing those games online, so there's more replay value there. (i'm not saying all games need multiplayer either ;p)
@mikey87144: Is it possible for a dreary game to have personality? In any case I thought Fuse looked awesome with that original concept video (the Pixar looking thing) it just ended up being B-tier GI Joe's. I guess a well-made third person cover based shooter with a bunch of crazy weapons in alternate reality England would be cool. Gears of War had at least passable fiction behind the gory gameplay. I'm just so bored with these types of games. The single player story needs to be top notch, and I don't mean like XCOM: The Bureau where they promised to flesh out that universe but actually good.
