Are weapons allowed in fighting games?

I had forgotten how much fun World Heroes was.

According to Giant Bomb Dot Com there are approximately 1,628 fighting games. So there are 790 episodes of Ranking of Fighters left to go assuming they do 2 games per episode.

My guess is that my estimate is too high because they aren't going to rank every version of Street Fighter IV but they still count as different entries in the wiki.
