Quick Look: LittleBigPlanet 3

First off: Dan seems to like this series, so the narrative the LBP defenders build in their heads already doesn't work on that level. Second: I think they were way too soft. The series is fucking awful. The best user-created levels are shitty callbacks to other games or plays on other genres like shooters and racing games. The main story missions are cute and creative but completely held back by the controls. And I love Stephen Fry, but even I have to agree that he talks too much at times. The collection aspect is completely lost on me since I have no intention of ever building anything.

The music's usually pretty great, though. And the real-life material graphics are also still nice to look at. They're just way less inspired and cohesive than Kirby's Epic Yarn and what I've seen of Wooly World.

Thanks for the Quick Look. I don't see myself ever getting back into these games. "Swoop" is a really good name for any character who can fly.

Yeah, I hope they go back to this in a couple of weeks on UPF or something just to see what batshit crazy levels people have made.

If there were a weekly video series of Jeff and Dan playing a bunch of really dumb little big planet levels I would watch the shit out of it.

I could never get into LBP and watching this video confirms that won't change yet. It's okay if someone else likes it just not my cup of tea.

Damn man you pretty much summed it up. I love these games and there is nothing like them i can also play them with my little nephew and older friends and get the same type of fun out of it. Jeff seems like he is actually a pretty nice guy but has to put up a front of being cynical about everything in order to keep up appearances. I just dont know how you can be sad playing little big planet games they are so god damn happy.

@tehpickle: Oh my god I hoped I was not the only one. That song was the only thing I could think about all yesterday, so this morning I did some digging. I knew it was by someone I listened to recently so I went through a couple of artists and turns out it actually is Air Song by Solar Fields (the 8am version from the Extended album)!

The part thats in the game starts around 7:50.

Phew, things like these will make me go crazy one day...

Meanwhile, this point forced me to return to Rush with renewed vigour to find what I was looking for, and I've found it! Huzzah! It turns out it wasn't on Hemispheres or Farewell to Kings. It was on Permanent Waves! Silly me! I got there eventually though.

Since I only ever played LBP1, and I still like Stephen Fry, I still like LBP. It's cute and friendly and I'm sure kids adore it.

Kind of looks like they phoned this one in so they had something on PS4 for the holidays.

Way more excited for Mario Maker than this.

Hearing Solar Fields there was super-weird. I had to check that I didn't have Spotify playing in the background or something. For those unaware: he did the music for Mirror's Edge, but he's also done a bunch of fantastic music over the years (and if you want even more, check out the rest of the Ultimae Records stable).
