This looks brilliant! I loved the first one so hopefully I’ll love this.

It seems like the last game I’d want to play co-op in though, I don’t want someone else cluttering up the screen during the precise platforming. It’s great for people that want it though.

Guac was always such a technical platformer that it kept people from playing. Making it even more focused on technical execution seems risky but the hardcore fans will enjoy it I bet.

I was kinda hoping for a Splosion Man style co-op game in my heart but I guess I'll never see that again. That remains my all time favorite co-op technical platformer (even with the terrible network sync issues).

Could never get into the first one despite really loving the aesthetics and atmosphere. Mechanically it just felt weird.

A big problem for me in the first game was that they did not let you re-map the buttons. Do they still not in 2? Dan complained the dodge button was messing him up.

I loved all of the upgrade screens in the first one. It's good to see they're still great here.

I really liked Guacamelee but the button complexity of the platforming was a little much. I'm down for timing but juggling a lot of extra buttons still trips me up.

I loved the first Guacamelee and this seems like more of that, which isn't a bad thing. Was the first one considered a hard game? I didn't think it was at all.

If you wanted to get all the special powers and upgrades it was pretty difficult due to the use of all buttons plus timing. It felt very much like a fighting game but less intuitive button combos.

I feel like I recall that the designer wanted it to use fighting game style controls when asked in interview.

They don't. Although if you play on PC or PS4 you can always remap your buttons. But ye, the buttons absolutely takes some getting used to. There's a lot going on, and many of the platforming puzzles feels like you're just trying to get your fingers straight.

I could never beat the last boss in the first one, but I really like the look and theme of these so I may fail to beat this one too.

I wish I could have gotten the handle of the first game, because I loved the aesthetic so much. As soon as my husband and I got to the intricate button orgy that these games are made up of, we were completely turned off. Cool for people that like that sort of thing though!

The music is definitely weaker than in the first game. By a lot.

Also Guacamelee 2 - like the first one - wants to be a technical, precise platformer with fighting game style controls and has challenges that require lots of quick precise inputs but still has a control scheme that is too “floaty” and simply not tight and precise enough for it.

I enjoy it a lot because I also loved the first one but it’s simply “more of the same” with many of the flaws of the first one still in place.

I remember loving the platforming in the first one but getting really tired of the combat by the end of it. It was the introduction of the white shield that broke it for me, and by the end I was just ready for it to be over.

With that being said though I do have a lot of great memories of that first game. I'll probably pick this up at some point, as sad as I am that it's not Severed 2.

What the fuck, I forgot this even existed and now it's out today?

I'm really excited because Guacamelee was radical, but it will just have to wait because I'm knee-deep in Hollow Knight already. Although I love this kind of game, I'm afraid we are fast approaching peak Metroidvania right now.

Very excited for this considering the first Guacamelee! is the only metroidvania style game I've ever enjoyed.

The first game had a massive difficulty spike in the final section, where it went from fun & frantic combat and platforming gymnastics to this overly technical exercise where I felt I could not make the controls do what I needed.

I'm probably going to stay away if this sequel leans towards the overly technical side of the equation even in the early hours.

@nigeth: 100% agree, played 3 hours last night and just got used to how the game 'feels', I kept knocking out combos after rolling through an enemy and attacking the wrong way. Been very used to Dead Cells and the fluid combat...this game is not that. Same with the platforming, I find it a bit...stiff might be the word.

Also, I keep confusing the trigger buttons. Probably used to other games, but dodge on L2 will not stick in my brain, keep pressing R2. Same with the chicken button. Could just be me though.

I am enjoying it though, it is fun just to have a very linear game that will end in 7-8 hours. If you didn't feel the first game though, maybe stay away.

Seems like quite a difference in reception for East vs West on this one. Not the first time of course but it'll be interesting to hear some additional thoughts on the Beastcast.

I loved the way the first game played, looked, and sounded, and this really is more of that, down to the humor which again isn't doing much for me. Although I haven't yet heard any music which rivals the desert area's living and dead tracks from the first game - I'd sit around and kill time switching back and forth between those just to hear the different mixes, so good.

Guacamelee! 2 takes a few minutes to get going but once it does it's constantly throwing upgrades and abilities your way. Really enjoying it.

@vampire_chibi:

That's where the health bars and stamina meters live, for up to four players, but the first game was the same way even when solo. Presumably because these are very bright and colorful games and worlds, so layering the important info on top of that business could make them harder to see and read at a glance in various scenes.

The audio's really freaking out for me at parts. Video keeps going, but the audio loops every now and then. That or they are just repeating themselves a whole lot.

Played this a bit today, seems pretty alright. First game was (if not counting for the Strider remake?) the only metroidvania I've ever beaten and I even did it on Vita somehow.

Seems very similar to the original. Not that more of the same has to be a bad thing of course.

@vikingdeath1: I spent 6 hours just on this one jumping section where you had to jump wall to wall avoiding spikes. Also far too long on the final boss (to my shame I never beat him)

I still remember doing this optional challenge where i had to input a string of commands in one go, and it got to the point where i had to just cram it all in my head before i started the attempt. Sort of cool, but also quite annoying at times.

Holy shit, Dan did the thing in the beginning of the video with the chicken without getting the hover move yet. I tried to do the same thing but couldn't; I didn't think you were supposed to yet.
