Hey Jan, I just wanted to say that I appreciate you making comment on the increased violence on elderly Asians.

Among all the GB crew, among all the reasons I can appreciate your presence, voice, and efforts - from one Asian to another, we love you dude.

@janman I want to also express my appreciation for calling out the increased attacks on Asian Americans. I've had to talk to my parents about being more careful and its sometimes frustrating to hear so much apathy from different corners of the internet.

Appreciate everything you bring and I always enjoy everything you do!

I had to pause the video to comprehend what he said regarding elderly Asian folks. What the hell is wrong with people!?!? Thank you, Jan for bringing that to our attention.

On the NMS side, I have been wanting to come back and play especially since I did not really see much of the last few updates and really interested in the companions.

The "tutorial" of getting your ship repaired is the worst. You (almost) always start on a hazard planet and going to get parts for your ship by running on foot to a base AND THEN BACK is not fun at all. After all that, the loop of gathering and expanding and exploring is very satisfying.

But man, they could really use a re-work of the tutorial.

Awesome, I keep thinking that I'd like to give this game another try with all the new stuff they added. Now I don’t have to. I can just sit here, eat tatyos and watch Jan play it for me.

I just want to say thanks for bringing more attention to the hate crimes facing the overall asian community these days. Mostly we "have it good" because we tend to come from very beneficial socioeconomic backgrounds but that also tends to result in people just not caring or dismissing actual hate crimes and blatant racism.

Which reminds me: Does GB still have that fucking Mark Wahlberg emote? Because I get he looks really stupid and it is funny but that is also a man with a history of violent hate crimes toward vietnamese people and... it is always a good reminder that he "paid for his crimes" and "boys will be boys" so stop complaining. Which goes a long way toward helping people normalize hate crimes against the overall asian community as just "normal violence" rather than what it actually is.

Uncomfortableness aside: In theory NMS is my thang. I love Elite Dangerous and one day when I am 90 I am sure I'll sit down and have some fun with Star Citizen. Hell, I have dozens of hours with the Evochron series and might go back some day. But holy shit does NMS do everything it can to put its worst foot forward. "Here is a tiny inventory and everything you do costs meters and you get to wander around on a hostile planet for a while to unlock the actual gameplay loop"

And a reminder: it isn't out yet but E:D will have the Odyssey expansion soon-ish that will add space legs and planetary exploration and flora (and maybe fauna?) categorization. Also probably some really poorly implemented on foot FPS combat.

Huh, I'm like the opposite side of the coin to you - in theory Elite Dangerous is something I'd love but to me it feels like it does everything it can to make itself boring for me! Whereas I feel NMS sorta backs off and lets you have fun doing what you want. There's no real multiplayer economy so the game lets you progress as fast as you want, while Frontier has an iron grip over the ways you can make money in ED, presumably so that people don't get the biggest ships "too fast". I guess I just really take issue with having to put an MMO amount of hours into the game grinding when I just want to fly around in single player or co-op. IMO solo should be completely separate and easier to progress through, for those who don't want to take part in the, frankly underwhelming, MMO side of things.

NMS lets me explore one planet for hours if I want, or I can jump multiple star systems away in a few minutes. In ED I have to wait on long travel times to do the things I want. To me it feels like Frontier lets realism get in the way of fun activities. If I wanna explore the edge of the galaxy I'm confronted with the reality of "space is really big so it's going to take you hours to get there".

@dijidiji: At the end of the day, everyone has to pick their own personal elite game.

That being said, the grind loop in ED can be brutal but also... that is the game. If you don't like spending long hours in a cockpit traveling between stars then there are games that do a much better job of compacting the gameplay.

Similarly, ED gets a lot of crap because Frontier seem to pay more attention to social media than the folk posting on it. And a lot of that is to try to avoid people getting "stuck" at endgame like you see in other live games like Warframe. But that also has the benefit of encouraging players to actually try the intermediate ships. I took a pretty long break after they revamped planet scanning but I have been rocking a Diamondback Explorerer (generally two or three ships down the progression trees) and am only now considering doing a sidegrade to an Asp Explorer. And, at least in the exploration community, the vast majority of players never move beyond those because they want mobility and don't care about much more. I prefer the style of the DBX but the ASPX will let me have a bit more redundancy and make it safer, and more meaningful, to hop in my SRV and explore planets that look valuable as I spend weeks in the black.

I hear you jan, agreed and respect, for everyone. PLS

also, good stream, I just hopped outta this in VR, once you get a stash of warp fuel for the hyperdrive, you can be star-skipping until you find a place you like, then another place, then another, then summon the anomaly and do some multi missions if you want to, etc. And, a lot of other stuff, including pets. Very cool game, the hurdles aren't that long or that arduous!
