Loving this game.

I am addicted to this game, when I can actually get in.

I do not understand why this game got popular to begin with. MMOs need to be completely rethought.

Why would it take 5-10 seconds to cut down a tree. That's just wasting the players time even more than usual.
EDIT: holy shit that lengthy looting animation. Such unnecessary waste of everyone's time.

I think I've decided these so-called "MMO" games just aren't for me. :\

The time it takes to harvest resources goes down a lot by using upgraded tools. It's like flint tools -> iron tools -> steel tools so far at low levels. It's very normal for resource gathering to not be instantaneous in these things. If the very slight Red Dead Redemption immersion in an MMORPG isn't for you that's fine but ALL games are a waste of time outside of artistic value it's just whether you dig it or not that matters.

Gonna get this to play with my brother soon. We play a lot of various MMOs together.

I want everyone to feel as old as I feel: I'm in a small Discord server for a class I had last semester. I'm 36, so naturally I'm quite a bit older than everyone else in the class. Anyways, I saw one of the guys playing New World and asked him how it was. He said he was into it. He said it was only his second MMO ever. Do you know what his first MMO was? It was fuckingDestiny. I hope reading that made you feel as old as it made me feel.

@bladeofcreation: So while it's not my first "MMO," I'm currently heavily involved in Destiny 2, and New World is actually the perfect transition for Destiny players to a "true MMORPG." One of my biggest issues with MMOs is the stupid ability bars with countless abilities. The game turns into "press the numbers in the right order over and over." New world, like Destiny, only gives you three abilities (per weapon), and what weapon you use can change combat and abilities dramatically. So yeah, I actually can see it enticing a lot of people from Destiny! (I know your point didn't relate directly to this, I just thought it was interesting to see Destiny brought up in the comments.)

Mainly replying to Rorie's tweets about New World here (from his tweet thread https://twitter.com/frailgesture/status/1445247475745366020), but I don't think the game is for you, Rorie. I don't mean that in a gatekeepery way - simply saying based on what you've said, you don't like the main aspects of the game. Crafting and PvP are really the two highlights, which you've said you're not a fan of. You also don't like the combat, which is obviously huge. There are basically no real PvE quests to speak of - 99% of that content is randomly generated "go here and kill/loot x" things that you pick up over and over. The main story quests are brief themselves and aren't anything special. Dungeons are fine, but there's only a handful.

The main draw for me is the gathering and crafting. I enjoy that kind of shit. But if you don't, then the game does not have much to draw you in.
